Scarfall 2.0 has made headlines for emerging as a Made-in-India battle royale mobile game. We have previously witnessed a similar sentiment during the release of FAU-G in 2021, which failed to compete against BGMI, PUBG Mobile, and even Free Fire. It appears that we finally have a strong indigenous competitor in the form of Scarfall 2.0, which is almost an India-themed version of BGMI.
So what exactly is Scarfall 2.0? Does it have enough to attract existing BGMI players? We compared both games side by side to understand the differences and similarities, and we just could not figure out where to start. Here’s a comprehensive comparison between BGMI and Scarfall 2.0.

What is Scarfall 2.0?
The Scarfall 2.0 game is made in India by Gujarat-based company XSQUADS Tech Private Limited. It is claimed to have been developed completely in-house, making it one of the first battle royale games for smartphones developed in our country. Although the creators do not directly advertise themselves as a BGMI alternative (something which FAU-G tried, and failed badly), the overall graphics and mechanics of Scarfall 2.0 are highly identical to those of BGMI and PUBG Mobile.
This can be perceived both positively and negatively. On one hand, we finally have an Indian Game Studio delivering a game to compete with giants like Tencent, Activision, Krafton, and others. The flipside is that our best indigenous game is a clone of an existing global hit. Regardless of one’s opinion, Scarfall 2.0 is a much-needed title that the Indian gaming community has been waiting for ages.
Similarities Between BGMI and Scarfall 2.0
If you have played BGMI before, then you will find Scarfall 2.0 very familiar. Elements like the waiting lobby, user interface, settings panel, item shop, etc., are almost the same as you find in BGMI. Even the map selection menu is identical. This makes it very easy for any new player to adapt to this game.

After changing the control layout, I hopped onto a TDM match on the Snow Park map, which appears to be inspired by the Hangar map in BGMI. The overall character movements, motion mechanism, and placement of score graphics and live feed are strikingly similar in both games. In fact, if you flinch your eyes, it becomes difficult to identify whether you are playing BGMI or Scarfall 2.0.

What impressed us the most was the optimisation. The game was already running at 60fps, and we did not encounter any lag or frame drops. Even during close combat fights, the bullet shorts registered properly without any desync issues. For a new game, this is an excellent achievement.
The gun recoil pattern, gun sounds, and sliding mechanism are also similar to those of BGMI. In fact, if you keep the control layout the same, Scarfall 2.0 will feel like a themed version of BGMI. Even the guns are the same across them, with just different names.
The ranking system is also similar in both games, but Scarfall 2.0 uses Hindi-inspired titles for each rank. You start from Nausikhiya and climb all the way to Samrat, which is nothing but going from Bronze to Conqueror in BGMI.

We then turned out to the classic match, which currently offers two maps: Mumbai and Andaman. Here’s where the differences start, as both of these maps are unique and reflect the true nature of Mumbai city and the Andaman Islands.
What Makes Scarfall 2.0 Different From BGMI?
The biggest differentiator for Scarfall 2.0 is the Mumbai map. It is currently the only map for a pure battle royale match, as the Andaman map gives you three respawns. What makes it truly unique is how accurately it reflects the actual Mumbai city.
It consists of places such as the iconic Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Railway Station, Gateway of India, Dadar station, Mumbai Airport, a replica of the Wankhede Stadium, and much more. It also has local trains that stop at each station, which you can board and move across the map.

The Mumbai map in Scarfall 2.0 truly reflects the city in its real form, and it actually feels like the game is being played in Mumbai. Such experience is unmatched even in themed modes of BGMI. The game has also included the traditional kaali-peeli taxi, which you can drive around the map as a vehicle.
Another key difference between Scarfall 2.0 and BGMI is the weapon names. Although both share the same guns and ammo, the popular M416 is renamed as the AR-Rowdy16, the DP-28 is called the MG-Destroyer, and so on. It can take a while to remember and adapt to the new names. But once you pick up any weapon, you can instantly relate to its BGMI counterpart from the shape, sound, and recoil of that particular gun.

Interestingly, Scarfall 2.0 also has a helicopter, which you can actually fly around the map. However, it has very limited HP and can be shot down by enemies easily.

Apart from these, Scarfall 2.0 and BGMI are almost the same games. If you have ever played BGMI before, it will take you less than 5 minutes to get used to the UI and overall game physics of Scarfall 2.0.

Wrapping Up
Scarfall 2.0 is a refreshing change for those who like the battle royale genre. However, if you expected a dynamic change like from Mini Militia to PUBG, then you might get disappointed. Whether you like the game or not, it’s a proud moment to see an Indian game studio deliver such a polished game with smooth graphics, impressive game physics, and server stability.
