Reason Borderlands 4 Is Missing FOV Sliders On Console Confuses Everyone

Can Liam Hemsworth really hack it as Geralt of Rivia? Will Toby Fox take as long with Deltarune Chapter 5 as the game’s last updates? And what the hell is Randy Pitchford talking about, part 523? Welcome to another edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news and culture. It’s official, folks: there are too many games to play, again.

I did not mow my lawn this weekend or empty and clean the pool because I was too busy losing sleep to Borderlands 4, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, and more Elden Ring Nightreign (The Deep of Night’s Depth 4 feels all but unobtainable at this point). I hope your weekend was more productive than mine. One more week to go until summer is officially over!

Why doesn’t Borderlands 4 have FOV sliders on console?

That’s one of the big questions fans on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been asking Gearbox Entertainment since the newest entry in the loot shooter series dropped last week. Some are blaming the lack of FOV sliders, along with the absence of any option to turn off motion blur, for motion sickness (I basically can’t play any first-person game too close to the screen for this reason). Others just play on wide-ass monitors and would like the option. One player even seemed to discover that the FOV is actually bigger when playing on split-screen despite not being an option in the settings menu.

“Quickie for console friends: FOV settings: There’s some dreams I have where an FOV setting might affect fairness,” CEO Randy Pitchford wrote in a poll posted on X. “I can’t really talk about it yet, but I see this is important to you so we’re looking at it.” The comment about fairness did not go over well. “Every time this guy talks it’s like he’s speaking a different language,” someone wrote on Reddit. With nearly 30,000 votes cast, “FOV slider or GTFO!” won overwhelmingly.

A day later, Gearbox promised it’s working on making that happen. “Vault Hunters!” it announced on X. “We have heard your feedback on FOV (Field of View) sliders on console. The team is currently exploring how to bring these sliders to both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions. We will continue to read your feedback & prioritize game updates with your experience in mind. Thanks all!”

Hell Is Us dev calls Silksong shadow drop “a little callous”

The Survival horror adventure ended up arriving the same day as 2025’s most-wishlisted Steam game, and that set up a tough choice for the team at Rogue Factor. “As the ‘GTA 6 of indie’…to shadow drop something like this is a little callous,” director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête told the Friends Per Second podcast (via IGN). The announcement that Silksong was landing on the same date led to a rush of “emails and texts and messages back and forth between a lot of people, between us and our publisher,” but unlike all of the games that ended up delaying to get out of the way, Hell Is Us stuck to its guns. “We decided to keep the date, and I’m happy that we did.”

When will we get Deltarune Chapter 5?

Probably fall of next year. Developer Toby Fox gave an update in a post celebrating Undertale‘s 10th anniversary. “Currently, we have one main deadline: I want to begin the translation by the end of 2025,” the creator writes. “After that point, gameplay changes will be acceptable, but large-scale text and story changes will be heavily frowned upon. Factoring the localization and testing…I don’t think that the game will be released in the first half of 2026.” Chapters 3 and 4 arrived earlier this summer.

Liam Hemsworth as Geralt debuts in Netflix’s first Witcher season 4 trailer

Henry Cavill’s replacement does very little talking in the 90-second clip. It’s mostly him fighting a VFX wraith, so it’s hard to judge. But I ain’t buying it. Yet. Hemsworth feels a bit like he’s showing up to a costume party on his Harley after spending $100 at Halloween Spirit. I’m not getting much of Geralt’s signature wry, sardonic wit or exhausted “here we go again” vibe from him. And Season 3 left things in such a poor place, I already had little desire to return. But this is the only on-screen Witcher action we’re getting for a while so I hope more footage is able to change my mind. Season 4 comes to Netflix on October 30.

Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S getting full FF7 remake trilogy with easy modes

If there was still any doubt, Square Enix put them to bed after announcing the first game’s release date on Switch 2 last week. Rebirth and Part 3, whenever it gets announced, will also be multiplatform and arrive with difficulty settings that let players tweak HP and other stats to “streamline progression.”

The Venom game is still alive, and Wolverine comes to PS5 in 2026

That’s according to a new report by Mp1st. It says that despite shifting creative directors last year, Insomniac’s Wolverine will stick to a planned 2026 release window. A Venom project which appeared in hacked files from the studio is also reportedly still active, and might ship as a standalone Spider-Man spin-off sometime after Wolverine is completed.
