A new partnership between GECA and Rebuilt promises to remove one of the biggest barriers to sustainability in construction: cost. By combining Rebuilt’s embodied carbon measurement tools with GECA’s trusted ecolabel standards, the two organisations will deliver environmental ratings at a fraction of the current price, making it possible for thousands more products to qualify for maximum Green Star points and meet incoming carbon regulations.
“This partnership between GECA and Rebuilt represents a meaningful step forward for sustainability in the built environment,” said Josh Begbie, CEO of GECA. “It gives industry players—manufacturers, specifiers, and developers an affordable, credible way to measure their embodied carbon, meet regulatory expectations, and maximise recognition under Green Star. Most importantly, it drives real change by rewarding products that are better for people, planet, and prosperity.”
According to Esther Bailey, COO of Rebuilt, the move could accelerate a major shift in the market.
“Environmental performance must be transparent, measurable, and accessible. By teaming up with GECA, we can multiply our impact, helping businesses not only meet embodied carbon legislation but also demonstrate leadership across ESG dimensions. Making certification more affordable means more products can meet higher sustainability standards, faster.”
The strength of the partnership lies in its complementary focus: GECA’s ecolabel standards address a wide range of ESG issues, including human health, responsible supply chains, and social impacts, while Rebuilt provides deep expertise in embodied carbon measurement and compliance. Together, the two organisations offer both carbon credibility and broad-based ESG leadership, helping the building products sector keep pace with regulation, consumer expectations, and sustainability benchmarks.
Through this collaboration, manufacturers will gain streamlined, low-cost access to environmental credentials, while specifiers and developers can have greater confidence in sourcing products that are both compliant and recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia under the Green Star Responsible Product Framework. The result is a more transparent supply chain and a stronger, more sustainable built environment.
