‘Embarrassing’ moment for Bolton goes viral as they’re humiliated in 3-0 defeat to Burton

An ’embarrassing’ moment for Bolton goes viral as they’re humiliated in a 3-0 defeat to Burton in League One on Saturday afternoon.

The Brewers picked up a much needed three points, thanks to Jake Beesley scoring twice, including a penalty, and Fabio Tavares netting his second league goal of the season.

The win marked Burton’s first home League One victory since the opening day, lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Bolton’s Sam Dalby missed several chances, while Burton’s defence, led by Finn Delap and goalkeeper Brad Collins, held firm. Tavares scored early in the second half, and Beesley sealed the win in stoppage time.

Bolton head coach Steven Schumacher said to the club website: “It’s disappointing. We’ve got to find a way to win these types of games away from home, we spoke to the lads all week about the type of challenge we were going to face today, coming to a team who are very direct and difficult to play against on a tough pitch, so we spoke about trying to be a bit more direct and playing it forward, playing with runners in behind and causing a problem.

“From the first minute of the game, when we get in, if we take that opportunity when Sam goes round the goalkeeper, it’s probably a different story, but we’ve said that before and we need to find a way to fix that.

“We should have been 2-0 up, Sam had another big chance, and from that goal kick that we miss, the big opportunity, they go down the other end and get a penalty, which I’m not sure is a penalty, but we’ve conceded three goals from three goal kick restarts which is really disappointing.

“We have got to do the basics right, we can talk about tactics and styles and how we break things down, but if you don’t defend goal kicks properly, you have got a problem.

“Once they score, they put 11 men behind the ball and made it difficult for us to break down, the pitch isn’t easy, it was really slow and bobbly, and it’s what you expect from a tight stadium away from home, and we have to try and make sure that we make good decisions and I thought our quality in the final third suffered.

“We did have a couple of big chances in the second-half to get one back at least, the keeper made a few good saves and it didn’t manage to happen, so it’s another game where we’re disappointed to lose in.

“It’s something we need to fix and we can’t keep giving ourselves a mountain to climb, with 45, 50 minutes of the second-half to play, you have to concentrate, and from another goal kick, we had the ball, Aaron Morley goes down, we play the ball back to him while he’s on the floor and they counter attack on us and catch us, they get a bit lucky with the shot that Teddy saves and it comes back to their centre forward, so it becomes more difficult for us, it’s disappointing but it’s something we’ve got to learn from.”

Schumacher on Huddersfield away next Thursday: “Thursday night gives us a chance to try and put it right, it’s going to be a completely different style of game, a team who will make a couple of passes and it won’t be the same as what we faced, so we have to make sure that we recover and bounce back and try and get the result that we want away from home and we’ll have to find a way to pick up points away from home as at the moment, it’s not good enough.”

Burton’s Gary Bowyer said: “We were awesome today.

“We always knew we were going to be up against it with their powerful squad, never mind team, but the early block from Finn was amazing and set the tone for the fight, spirit and everything we had to be today.

“We talked in the week about being the underdog, but we all know that a dog has a bite no matter what size it is.

“I am delighted for all of them but in particular Mr Beesley.

“He has been phenomenal for us in all 11 games and the relief when he scored his second goal, from open play, was brilliant.

“He is clinical from the spot, but his work rate epitomises, in my world, everything about what a football player and team is. He sets the tone.

“The lads in the dressing room are buzzing not only for themselves but for him as well.

“We knew the importance of the first goal and we knew they hadn’t won away yet and we executed our game plan terrifically.”

Here’s how fans reacted when an ’embarrassing’ moment for Bolton goes viral as they’re humiliated in 3-0 defeat to Burton…

@edward_w97: Only just now seen the Bolton fan down by the net who think Beesley’s going to put it out of play. Brilliant.

@NathanShapland_: 1 of the least composed strikers I’ve ever seen doing that 😂

@bradt_bwfc: Send that fucker back to Chelsea he’s absolutely horrific

@ajmstubbsuk: TSL is about as good as Crellin was. Which is to say. Shite. Then again, he’s not at fault for the result. That’s the whole team. Not a single players gets a pass on this one. Least of all the manager. Questions getting asked now #bwfc

@willprinse: He has a stinker like that every week, one of them here and there is what it is but every week is obviously the sign of a poor keeper

@robf193: Don’t wanna see any days off between now and Huddersfield. 5-0 across away games against Northampton and Burton. Absolutely embarrassing and I hope all the players and staff know it #bwfc

@ab1d03: It’s getting a real concern now. I can forgive making 1 mistake as long as u learn from it but he makes one every week. It’s unacceptable #bwfc

@pag1970: TSL in no man’s land. Happens 2/3 times a game.

@Wesbwfcagain1: Hahahahahaha he’s as bad as they come him

@Finley_bwfc: Why did we try to out-Burton, Burton? Gary Bowyer must have been laughing his tits off the way we set up. Woeful performance. Dalby has to score those 2 chances. But all of them poor today. Schuey now under some serious pressure. Results simply not good enough. #bwfc

@BAFCmack: fairplay lads with performances like that you should comfortably stay in league one.

@HangryHippo91: Different season, same problems. No final product, gifting easy goals, no backbone. This is the weakest league 1 has been for years, and we’re wasting an easy opportunity to get out of it. Johnston and Conway poor today, but I dont see what value Dalby & TSL add to our team.

@bendrfcsmith97: Whilst TLT hasn’t been great so far, this is an example of why I didn’t want TSL back, really

@WanderasLuke: Okay. If you can’t go to these grounds and perform, there’s no chance of getting out of league one. Another contender who needed something (moving out of the relegation zone) and we have been the team to give it to them. Rinse and repeat. Change still needed

@DannyPillo91: Called it after a couple games and got pelters. Lad is absolutely crap. Garbage. Genuinely cost us 5-10 points this season already.

@luke_bwfc: I’ve had enough of the goalie now

@will464775: Best team in league 1 apparently

@ScottGretton: Was absolutely hilarious watching the #bwfc fans trudging out from this 3-0 slapping at Burton 😂😂 #dcfc #dcfcfans

@HtafcDream: Need some of that on Thurs

@CiaranBWFC2002: Honestly would throw Miller in on Thursday, can’t do any worse can he let’s face it. This mon is absolutely stinking the place out

@FeeFiFoFee: We are Sunday league #bwfc

@bwfctalk: Embarrassing #bwfc

@danielsw1997: I’d be fucking mortified if we’d conceded that
