As the Chicago Bears took on the Washington Commanders in a crucial Monday Night Football matchup, the focus of the matchup was always going to be the first and second overall picks from the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. With both players putting together an excellent showing in the game, the stakes were only elevated as the game inched closer to a conclusion.
However, for most of the fan base, there was a clear problem with the game, though it wasn’t related to the product on the field itself. Instead, a vocal majority of fans were against Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman in the commentary booth, who was very critical of Williams throughout the game. The situation got so bad that there were direct calls to have him fired.

Fans Grow Tired of Caleb Williams’ Hate From Troy Aikman
Completing 17 of 29 passes for 2352 yards and a touchdown, Williams had an excellent game for the most part. With a passer rating just below 100, he also ran for a touchdown as the Bears won 25-24.
All in all, he had done his part in making sure that the Bears did not lose once again to the Commanders, after their season was ruined in 2024 following a similar result. But for Aikman, the performance wasn’t enough.
Regularly critical of the former first-round pick, the USC alum seemed to be unable to do anything right. Fans quickly grew tired of his shtick, taking to social media to voice their complaints against him.
Bryan Perez of Sports Illustrated had to exhaustedly admit, “We get it, Troy Aikman. You hate Caleb Williams. #DaBears.” Other fans agreed with his assessment, “This has been an awful one-sided broadcast. Even when Caleb does something right, he criticizes him.”

Others weren’t as forgiving. “Fire Troy Aikman right now, he is making my ears bleed, ESPN,” one fan requested.

For some, the bias against Williams was too much to bear. As a result, they wrote, “@NFL @NFLPlus Fire Aikman while you are at it. I thought commentators were supposed to be unbiased?”
Yo @NFL fire aikman , he so bias against the bears ! Bro hella mad they winning

But others did not specify a reason for their vitriol against him. Instead, his work throughout the game seemed to be subpar for them, as they pleaded, “OMG, get Troy Aikman off prime time. He’s awful.”
Troy aikman’s disdain for Caleb Williams is really really weird

It wasn’t hard to notice the direction Aikman’s commentary was taking. As some expressed their concern, “Troy Aikman’s disdain for Caleb Williams is really, really weird,” others openly questioned, “Seriously, what did Caleb Williams do to Troy Aikman?”
The commentary was getting ridiculous for some, as they wrote, “Aikman isn’t even letting the ball hit the ground before sh**ting all over Caleb. Dude is in his feelings about Caleb for some reason and it’s destroying this broadcast.”
Others pointed out rather hilariously, “Caleb Williams could cure cancer and Troy Aikman would still find a way to criticize him.”
Ultimately, though, Aikman had to eat his words, as Williams led a game-winning drive to set up a Jake Moody field goal that gave the Bears a 25-22 victory to go up 3-2 on the season.
Adding 36 yards on three passes on the pivotal drive, his production was immaculate throughout the night, as another clean game resulted in Chicago finding its footing under Johnson.
