GTA6 Fans Are Not Handling The Second Delay Well

Games get delayed all the time, but there aren’t many that can impact an entire industry’s pipeline by getting pushed back a few more months. Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the few games that can, and the open-world crime drama has just been officially delayed until November 2026, after already being delayed to next May from its originally planned 2025 release date. “We got [game or movie X] before GTA6” was already a ubiquitous meme on the internet, and now there are about to be six more months of noteworthy releases and world events for us to experience before we see Jason and Lucia’s love story unfold. Let’s check in on how fans are handling Rockstar’s delay announcement, shall we?

Felt my soul leave my body as I read the GTA news, not because of GTA but because as I read it I could feel another game I desperately want — with vital business importance too — slipping to 2027 lmao

I am also excited for GTA, of course

We’ll now get

• Supergirl
• Minions 3
• Toy Story 5
• The Odyssey
• Scary Movie 6
• Coyote vs ACME
• The Social Network 2
• Spider-Man: Brand New Day
• The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
• The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

before GTA 6

All of this posting through the pain comes just after Rockstar fired multiple employees in an act several called a union-busting tactic, while the studio claims the affected workers were leaking company secrets. Naturally, some are claiming this delay is a play to distract from those headlines, but I can’t imagine a project of Grand Theft Auto 6’s scale being delayed solely to draw attention away from something like that. There’s too much riding on it, and the game is already projected to break records.

If GTA6 does manage to hit its new November 19 release date, it will have been 13 years between GTAV’s launch in 2013 and its follow-up’s arrival. That’s a huge gap, but Rockstar has been supporting Grand Theft Auto Online in the years between, so it’s not like the series has been dormant all that time. Still, the series did skip a console generation, as the PS4 and Xbox One didn’t get their own GTA. They did get a port of GTAV, though, and it sold a bajillion copies, too.
