Norwich hold talks with three managers as search for Liam Manning’s replacement continues

Norwich hold talks with three managers as the search for Liam Manning’s replacement continues with the hope to appoint in the next 10 days.

Following a 2-1 loss to Leicester, extending an winless streak to 11 games, the Canaries sit 23rd in the Championship table with 9 points from 16 games played.

Leading contenders and early favourites to replace Manning have been revealed, with BBC Sport reporting that Norwich have held talks with Gary O’Neil, Will Still and Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell, Lyall Thomas and Anthony Joseph have said via their live blog:

“Norwich have met with Jon Dahl Tomasson as they continue their search for a new head coach.

“The former Sweden and Blackburn boss is one of a number of candidates they are speaking to about succeeding Liam Manning.

“Tomasson was sacked by Sweden last month after they lost 1-0 to Kosovo, leaving their bid to qualify for next summer’s World Cup almost certain to fail.

“He impressed people while at Blackburn however, leading the club to a seventh-place finish in 2022-23 and narrowly missing out on the play-offs.”

Sami Mokbel meanwhile says that Norwich have held talks with Gary O’Neil, Will Still and Jon Dahl Tomasson in their search to find a new manager following Liam Manning’s dismissal.

FAVOURITES TO BECOME NEW NORWICH MANAGER:

BetVictor – 12th November
John Dahl Tomasson – 1/2
Gary O’Neil – 7/4
Marek Papszun – 5/1
Daniel Farke – 8/1
Michael Carrick – 8/1
Russell Martin – 12/1
Brendan Rodgers – 16/1
Will Still – 20/1
Carlos Corberan – 20/1

Here’s how fans reacted as Norwich hold talks with three managers while the search for Liam Manning’s replacement continues…

@NCFC_Dannyyy: I feel like I’m living on a different planet to some people on here. JDT may have got Blackburn top six but he nearly took them down and had a public falling out with the captain and categorically failed at Sweden Doesn’t exactly scream great manager! #NCFC

@bradb_: Christ. I swear if JDT was called Martin Smith no one would want the bloke. He absolutely blew shit up at Blackburn and they were going down before he was sacked, did average at Roda and Molde and was most recently absolutely honking with Sweden #NCFC

@viensjef: Jon Dahl Tomasson got Blackburn to 7th and an FA cup quarter final in his first season. Then ultimately left because he wasn’t financially backed. Wouldn’t be against it! #ncfc

@fin131_: Honestly don’t know enough about Jon Dahl Tomasson to pass judgement. Although I’d definitely be more open to him than Martin/ O’Neil if he has less of a tendency to throw players under the bus when things get tough #ncfc

@BenHuntley2000: Hard knowing what the best option is! We have such a misfit group of players, I’d love high intensity Football but with Jurasek, Medic and Topic??? Our squad is so unfit, So imbalanced, They all suit different needs. Something BK has created and spent a small fortune on. #NCFC

@aware86: I’m excited by the Jon Dahl Tomasson link. Seems a natural fit for our squad, built for JHT. More than Marek Papszun, who according to research favours 5 at the back, which is a disaster under Manning. #OTBC #NCFC

@BenHuntley2000: JDT? His Blackburn side battered us before they went down to 10 men that day. (We were horrendous tbf) Was looking promising 1st 6 months but don’t think it ended well and likewise with Sweden. Not sure what to make of it. Surly it would be O’Neil’s if he wanted it. #NCFC

@NCFCRulz: Not convinced. Regressed at Roda JC. Got them relegated before being sacked winning 3 of 17 games. Failed to save a team struggling relegation quite spectacularly. Regressed at Malmö. 65pts season before he took charge, 60pts and 59pts for his 2 full seasons. Regressed at Blackburn. Season before – 69pts. 1st season – 69pts. 2nd season – left in Feb with 33pts from 30 games. Relegation form. At Sweden, most notable win came against Slovakia. Lost his last 4 competitive games against Kosovo twice, Switzerland and Slovenia…

@daniel_defalco: I’d be happy with either JDT or O’Neil. Think some on here just like moaning for the sake of moaning. Don’t forget we’re 23rd! #ncfc

@Ginger_Canary: I feel like Tomasson would be a manager that, like Manning, requires time to fully implement his style, which isn’t a luxury we exactly have right now #ncfc

@ncfcnodge: Like the sound of Tomasson. But you know Knapper will be hypnotised and taken by Still. #ncfc

@JamesShreeve: There is absolutely no manager who we’ll be able to get that won’t have some issues. It’s not the end of the world, we’re 23rd in the championship. We can’t pick from the elite coaches table. #ncfc

@tommykerrison: Russell Martin would be an absolute disaster appointing him! Think we would be worse off! His overall manger record is genuinely shocking! Don’t want him anywhere near this football club! #ncfc
