Marvel Is Giving Captain America the Epic Showdown the MCU Botched

Captain America is set to face off against a powerful foe that will unfortunately never happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Evans’ swansong as the Sentinel of Liberty comes in Avengers: Endgame, with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America. Mackie’s first feature film as Cap takes place in Captain America: Brave New World.

That movie officially introduces Red Hulk to the MCU, where he clashes with Captain America. Sam Wilson is able to hold his own against Red Hulk, but some fans will prefer to see Steve Rogers take on Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. While it appears unlikely for that showdown to take place on the big screen, the comics will make it happen.

Marvel’s February 2026 solicitations include Captain America #7 by writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar. Taking place in the fallout of One World Under Doom, the main cover of the issue by Valerio Schiti features Captain America in an intense battle with none other than Brave New World‘s own Red Hulk.

The Marvel event One World Under Doom concludes with Doctor Doom sacrificing his life to save his goddaughter, Valeria Richards. This leaves a power vacuum in Latveria, and it’s Captain America’s job to keep the peace. With Red Hulk being a former war criminal held prisoner by Doom, he has other ideas that conflict with Cap.

Captain America #7 is also a prelude to Marvel’s big 2026 event, Armageddon, which is being penned by Captain America scribe Chip Zdarsky. Marvel has already revealed that S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming back in a big way, as Nick Fury Jr. also takes an interest in the political unrest in Latveria.

Below is the solicitation for Captain America #7:

A CAPTAIN’S CRUSADE!

Red Hulk’s fear of a second Doctor Doom rising from the ashes of Latveria spurs him into taking drastic action, just as Captain America discovers there are those within the war-torn country who see a path to a brighter future. Can Captain America bring their dream within reach, or are there too many forces stacked against him?

MCU Fans Missed Out On Steve Rogers’ Captain America Vs. Red Hulk

Fans Had To Settle For Sam Wilson Instead

Captain America: Brave New World continues the MCU’s downward trend with releases. Audiences are lukewarm to the Sam Wilson-led feature film, with critiques ranging from the underwhelming story and weird plot choices. However, a highlight of Brave New World is the showdown between Red Hulk and Cap, even though Sam Wilson isn’t a super-soldier.

Just think how epic a fight it could be if it were Red Hulk vs. Steve Rogers? MCU fans never got to see what could happen if Captain America and Bruce Banner’s Hulk squared up. Instead, they get battles between Hulk and Thor, and Hulk and Iron Man. Leave it to the comics to make that matchup a reality.

Captain America #7 goes on sale in February 2026 from Marvel Comics.
