Fallout 5 Teaser Roasted By Gamers, And We Get It

Fallout hoping to hear something about Fallout 5 were left pleasantly surprised this week. Following a disappointing Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition launch and relative dearth of Fallout news throughout the year, we finally know something about the next official Fallout game.

According to Bethesda’s Todd Howard in an interview with BBC, Fallout 5 will “be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening,” which is the biggest update we’ve had on the game since… ever.

Fallout 5 Has Fans Torn

We can definitely see why

While Howard is largely doing the rounds to promote the new season of Amazon’s Fallout television series, we got the news that the next game, whenever it releases, will line up canonically with the television series.

Exactly where Fallout 5 will be set remains to be seen, but the show focuses largely on the West Coast, so we could very well see the next game take us out that way.

As exciting as this may be, the news has certainly raised some eyebrows. For one thing, fans have pointed out Fallout 5 is probably so far away that the Amazon series could have long-since finished, so maybe planning brand synergy between the two at this stage is a little optimistic.

“I like the show, but it’ll be forgotten by the time this game releases,” writes one fan on Reddit. “I don’t think the stars will keep signing on for season after expensive season.”

“Can’t wait to play it in 2040,” another fan quips, prompting one user to call that prediction “optimistic.”

“2040?! Nah I highly doubt they’d release Fallout 5 before Skyrim Extra Super Special Edition & Knuckles for the PlayStation Quantum,” is perhaps my favorite comment from the thread.

Fallout 5 Is A Long, Long Way Off

See you on the other side

You certainly can’t blame the fans for feeling this way. Bethesda infamously released a trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 way too soon, and that game is still at least two-three years away. Talking about Fallout 5 lining up with a show that’s out now when we all know it’s nowhere close to releasing just seems like an odd thing to do.

I love Fallout, and I’m super excited about the next adventure, but maybe we’re all getting just a little ahead of ourselves. Let’s look to the next Elder Scrolls first, and take it from there.
