Aerominum, Dual AI, and Two Pros – Trendy Gadget

LG Electronics is bringing its ultra-light laptop philosophy to CES 2026 with the new LG gram lineup, and the focus this year is refinement rather than reinvention. The headline upgrades are a new Aerominum chassis material and a productivity strategy built around Dual AI, aiming to balance mobility, durability, and modern AI workflows.

The 2026 LG gram family splits into two clear “Pro” directions. One targets users who want a large display and discrete graphics without carrying a bulky workstation, while the other prioritizes an OLED panel and AI-driven productivity in a more compact form factor. Both models expand ecosystem connectivity through gram Link and strengthen device security using LG ThinQ.

Aerominum Chassis and Everyday Durability

The new Aerominum material is designed to reduce weight while improving structural rigidity. LG positions it as more resistant to scratches and daily wear, addressing long-standing concerns that ultra-light laptops can feel fragile in real-world use. The goal is simple: keep the gram identity intact while making the laptop more practical for daily travel.

Visually, the chassis features a refined metallic finish and an internal aeroplate structure that reinforces key stress points without increasing thickness. It remains unmistakably a gram laptop, but with a stronger emphasis on durability and long-term usability.

Dual AI Strategy: On-Device and Cloud

LG’s Dual AI approach combines on-device processing with optional cloud-based intelligence. On-device AI is handled by gram chat powered by the EXAONE 3.5 small language model, allowing certain AI tasks to run without an internet connection. This is especially useful for privacy-focused users or those working while traveling.

Selected models also support Microsoft Copilot+ PC features, providing AI assistance for productivity, multitasking, and content creation. In practice, LG is positioning AI as a background productivity tool rather than a headline gimmick.

Cross-Device Connectivity and Security

The updated gram Link feature expands file sharing, screen mirroring, and content transfer across Android, iOS, and webOS-based LG devices such as monitors and TVs. This cross-platform approach aims to reduce friction between devices that typically operate in separate ecosystems.

Security is handled through LG ThinQ, which enables remote locking or data wiping if a device is lost or stolen. It is a practical addition that complements the gram’s mobility-focused design.

LG gram Pro 17 vs LG gram Pro 16

The LG gram Pro 17 (17Z90UR) is positioned as the world’s lightest 17-inch laptop with discrete graphics. It features a 17-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) LCD display and is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7 memory. This model targets users who need a large workspace and GPU acceleration while maintaining portability.

The LG gram Pro 16 (16Z90U) takes a different approach, focusing on display quality and AI performance. It features a 16-inch WQXGA+ (2880 x 1800) OLED panel and the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. It is designed for users who prioritize visual clarity and responsive multitasking over discrete graphics.

Both models share the same design philosophy, emphasizing lightweight construction, AI-enhanced productivity, and seamless device integration. Pricing and availability will vary by region, with the 17-inch model confirmed as a North America exclusive. LG Electronics plans to showcase the 2026 LG gram lineup at CES 2026, with pricing and availability differing by model and region.
