Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards reached a major milestone Thursday (Jan. 8) night. He became one of the youngest players in NBA history to score 10,000 career points.

Anthony Edwards Joins the Rare 10,000 Career Points Club
Edwards achieved the mark during Minnesota’s home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, further cementing his status as one of the league’s elite young stars. He became just the seventh player in NBA history to reach 10,000 points before turning 25.
Legion Hoops highlighted the achievement in a post on X on Thursday.
“Anthony Edwards just became the third-fastest player to reach 10,000 points in NBA history,” the post read. “The only players to ever do it faster: LeBron and KD.”

Edwards entered the game with 9,977 career points. The milestone came with 6:54 remaining in regulation when he knocked down a two-point jumper. The basket gave him 23 points on the night and brought his career total to exactly 10,000.
The achievement came after some uncertainty earlier in the day. Edwards was added to the Timberwolves’ injury report just hours before tipoff due to right foot injury management. The team later cleared him to play, and he showed no signs of limitation once on the floor.
Edwards finished the game with 25 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds in 37 minutes. The Timberwolves earned a 131-122 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, their fourth straight win.
The Timberwolves improved to 25-13 with the win and currently sit fourth in the Western Conference standings.
Edwards reached the milestone at 24 years and 156 days of age. Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant reached 10,000 career points at a younger age. Edwards now stands alongside those two future Hall of Famers on one of the league’s most exclusive scoring lists.

The accomplishment also came in Edwards’ sixth NBA season. Since entering the league, he has steadily grown into the centerpiece of the Timberwolves’ offense and one of the most feared scorers in the NBA.
This season, Edwards is playing at an elite level across the board. He is averaging 29.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. He is also contributing 1.4 steals per contest. Edwards is shooting 50.4% from the field and 41.2% from 3-point range.
His improved efficiency has been a key factor in Minnesota’s strong start to the season. Edwards has taken on increased responsibility as a scorer while continuing to bring energy on the defensive end.
Thursday’s performance was another example of his impact. Edwards controlled the pace offensively with 10-of-20 field goals and 3-of-7 deep range shots. He also created scoring opportunities for teammates and delivered key baskets down the stretch to help secure the win.
As Minnesota continues its push toward the playoffs, Edwards’ health and production will remain critical. His latest milestone serves as another reminder of how quickly he has risen among the league’s top talents.
