Key Insights on Highest Team Totals in WTC History

Record-Breaking Team Totals and Innings Longevity

England have recorded the highest team total in WTC history, having scored 823 for 7 (declared) against Pakistan in the second innings of the 2024 Multan Test.

This score of 823 for 7 is also the highest total in an away Test in the WTC, and it stands as England’s third-highest and the fourth-highest team total overall in the history of Test cricket.

England also holds the record for the highest team total on home soil in the championship, posting 669 runs against India during the 2025 Manchester Test.

New Zealand have played the longest innings in the WTC by duration, batting for 194.5 overs to reach 612 for 9 (declared) against Pakistan in the 2022 Karachi Test.

Except for the West Indies, the other eight participating teams have scored a 500-plus total at least once in the Test championship.

Individual Milestones and Dominant Batting Performances

Harry Brook scored 317 of England’s 823 runs, marking the second-highest individual score by a batter in the WTC.

Brook’s innings is the fastest triple century in the history of the Test championship, as he reached the 300-run mark in just 310 balls.

Sri Lanka posted a total of 531 runs against Bangladesh in the 2024 Chattogram Test, which remains the highest total by a team without a single individual century in the WTC.

India recorded the highest run rate by a team in a single innings (minimum 200 runs scored) by scoring 285 for 9 (declared) at a rate of 8.22 against Bangladesh in the 2024 Kanpur Test.

Successful Run Chases and Fourth Innings Records

The record for the highest team total in an unsuccessful run chase also belongs to England, who were bowled out for 367 runs while attempting to chase 375 against India at the 2025 Oval Test.

The West Indies have achieved the highest successful run chase in the WTC, hunting down a target of 395 runs against Bangladesh in 2021.

Kyle Mayers contributed an unbeaten 210 during that chase, which is the highest individual score by a batter in the fourth innings of a WTC match.

England has been the most successful team in high-pressure chases, completing three successful run chases of 300 or more runs.
