Businessman Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12. He is survived by wife Priya Sachdev and four children – Samaira, Kiaan, Safira and Azarius. He was first married to Nandita Mahtani. Post divorce, he tied the knot with actress Karisma Kapoor. Their marriage lasted for more than a decade and they had two children – Samaira and Kiaan. He then married Priya Sachdev in 2017. They welcomed son Azarius in 2018. Safira is Priya Sachdev’s daughter from first marriage. Post his sudden demise, all of them united to pay their last respects. Now, an old interview of Priya has gone viral in which she spoke about the challenge faced by Sunjay Kapur.
When Priya Sachdev spoke about Sunjay Kapur taking over father’s business
In an interview with Kin and Kindness, Priya Sachdev had once spoken about how Sunjay Kapur had to make some hard decisions post the demise of his father and divorce with Karisma Kapoor. She mentioned that he had to shoulder the pressure of taking over the family business after the demise of father Surinder Kapur. It was also the time when he was going through divorce wit Karisma Kapoor. Priya said, “He has been through so much and we were together in it and now we have come out of it. He has become a very successful businessman.”
Sunjay Kapur was misunderstood, says Priya Sachdev
Priya Sachdev also revealed what attracted her to Sunjay. She said that she found him ‘endearing, honest and misunderstood’. She said, “He has been misunderstood but now he is very much respected in industry. His father was a legend in his space, and now he is filling his shoes, which makes us all very proud. He’s also had to make harsh decisions and choices, and most of them have turned out well.”
Sunjay Kapur was in London playing a polo match when he suffered a heart attack. Reportedly, he accidentally swallowed a bee. It was on June 19 that he was laid to rest. On June 22, a prayer meet was held in Delhi.
