Jessica Pegula highlights strategy and resilience in her three-set win over Emma Navarro at the Bad Homburg Open quarterfinals

Jessica Pegula advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open after a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over fellow American Emma Navarro. The top seed showed her trademark consistency and tactical awareness to overcome a mid-match dip and regain control in the deciding set.

In her on-court interview, Pegula reflected on the challenges of the match, noting the shifting momentum and tricky grass-court conditions. “It was a bit gusty out there, and the rain delay didn’t help either,” she said. “But I just tried to stay focused on my footwork and keep my shots clean.”

The match began with both players struggling to find rhythm on serve, but Pegula managed to break early and build a 5-2 lead. Although Navarro broke back, Pegula held firm to take the opening set. The second set saw a dramatic shift, with Navarro dominating from the baseline and converting two of four break points to level the match.

Pegula responded in the third with renewed aggression, breaking in the fourth game and holding serve with precision. She struck six aces in total and saved seven of ten break points across the match, using her backhand to dictate rallies and disrupt Navarro’s timing.

This win marks Pegula’s fourth semifinal appearance of the season and her first since winning the Charleston title in April. She now prepares to face Linda Noskova in the next round, aiming to reach her second grass-court final after her Berlin triumph last year.
