Escape from Tarkov is about to get a lot more difficult.
Over the past few days, the game’s developer Battlestate Games has been gradually rolling out new details about what players can expect from this month’s upcoming Hardcore Wipe, and now they’ve released the last piece of information about it.
Not only will players be starting over from zero, like with a standard Escape from Tarkov wipe, but things will be getting significantly harder and more of a grind across the board.
The game is also approaching its full version 1.0 final release, marking the end of its 8-year beta test period, as well as the upcoming Steam release. We still don’t know exactly when that will be happening, but we do know that it’ll be sometime this year and an announcement should be coming soon.
Battlestate Games has been rolling out information about the Hardcore Wipe in a series of social media posts (1, 2, 3), each one with an infographic letting players know what to expect.
A major change in the first wave of details is that the flea market, usually a player-driven store to help others prepare for their raids, will be disabled, along with crafting requiring more resources, Hideout Zones no longer requiring the items used to construct them to be found in raid, limited ammo crafting, and reduced spawn chances of higher-rarity loot.
The second wave of information details how certain locations will be more restricted, only accessible through transitions from other areas, as well as greater restrictions on what can be stored in secure containers, a reduced selection of items available from the Trader, lower sell prices, and higher buy prices.

Next time you die, you’ll have to blame netcode instead.
The third and final wave, released today, says that all locations will have a 100% chance of bosses spawning, reduced experience for killing enemies or dying, increased experience for survival, and heightened AI difficulty.
Battlestate Games also announced that the new restrictions will be “wave-like,” with sets of gameplay changes to be introduced as players progress, including gradually making more locations available from the selection screen.
Responses from the community have been mixed, with most looking forward to certain changes, like boss spawns, while others, like forcing them to rely on area transitions to access certain locations, have been less popular.
The general sentiment is that the biggest change with the Hardcore Wipe is that the game will become a lot more of a grind than it was before, which seems to kill the appeal for a lot of players, and that it’s a strange choice to introduce such dramatic changes when Escape from Tarkov is so close to its final release.
