One of the most exciting Game of Thrones replacement shows is planned for a 2025 release, and it’s not getting the traction it deserves. Following the 2019 Game of Thrones ending, practically every streaming service has attempted to fill the void, be it with fantasy shows like The Witcher and The Wheel of Time or dramas like Succession.

Series like The Rings of Power, See, and The Sandman have even utilized Game of Thrones stars in their casts, hoping to capture some of the culture-shifting magic that defined HBO’s show. I’m constantly looking for a series that could offer a similar feeling to ‘Thrones, which was based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire novels.

King And Conqueror Is Planned For a 2025 Release On The BBC

The Series Is Planned To Premiere Later This Year

King and Conqueror is a historical drama developed as a collaboration between CBS Studios and the BBC. The series will be based on the events of 11th-century England, in which a clash between Harold of Wessex and William the Conqueror changed the course of British and, by proxy, world history forever.

The Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon returned for its long-awaited second season in 2024, and now season 3 is confirmed.

This series is based on a pivotal moment in history and will involve dynastic family drama, epic medieval battles, and stellar performances from an unbelievable cast. The show began filming in Iceland in early 2024, with a planned 2025 premiere date in the United Kingdom. Paramount will then distribute King and Conqueror internationally.

A Paramount+ release seems likely for King and Conqueror in the US.

In terms of production, the BBC and Paramount are two companies that could ensure a quality level similar to HBO. The series is also developed by the creator of BBC’s critically acclaimed series, Sherlock.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Ser Jaime Lannister in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, is likely the headlining name who will appeal the most to fans of the HBO classic. He’ll be playing William the Conqueror, making him one of the two series leads.

Coster-Waldau will share the marquee with actor James Norton, another talented actor known for 2019’s Little Women, who was also cast as Ormund Hightower in House of the Dragon season 3. Game of Thrones star Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark) was initially attached to the project, but was replaced during production.
