Eventually forced to settle for another silver medal finish among England’s elite last season, Arsenal’s wait for Premier League success only goes on.
Failing to claim a single domestic crown since Arsene Wenger’s side way back in 2004, it has been suggested that Mikel Arteta could find some real pressure on his shoulders if the Gunners finish the 2025/26 campaign without a piece of silverware to show for their troubles.
However, with the Spanish tactician making it abundantly clear that Premier League success is his number one priority, Arteta has already been heavily backed this summer.
Alongside welcoming Spanish international Martin Zubimendi over the weekend in what was a reported £60million deal with Real Sociedad, Arsenal look set to complete what would be a seismic signing this month.
With news breaking on Sunday that Arsenal have advanced in talks over a move for Swedish sensation Viktor Gyokeres, there is a real air of excitement around the red half of north London.
Looking to establish themselves as the early leading title contender before things get underway next month, Gyokeres’ arrival at the Emirates will certainly be considered a real coup.
Gyokeres can spearhead Arsenal to their title dreams
Shockingly once again passing on the opportunity to add striking reinforcements during the January transfer window, fans around north London were left furious by that decision and made their frustrations heard.
With Bukayo Saka suffering a long-term hamstring injury and undergoing surgery back in December, the Gunners failed to find any real fluidity in the final third and they often flattered to decieve in attack.
With no player in Arteta’s camp surpassing double digit Premier League goals, many have felt that a legitimate number nine is what has prevented them from claiming a first domestic crown in almost two decades.
However, while Arsenal’s wait for a natural leading marksman might have taken far too long, they look set to snap up one of Europe’s most lethal superstars.
With it reported over the weekend that talks have started to intensify over what could be a record-breaking fee, Gyokeres’ move to the Emirates would be considered as a real statement of intent.
Since arriving at Sporting Lisbon back in the summer of 2023 following a £20million move from Coventry, the Swedish international has shattered a string of records and is widely regarded as one of the most sought after number nines in world football.
Notching an astonishing 54 goals for the Lions last season and firing Sporting to a 21st Primeira Liga crown, the one-time Brighton striker has become a cult icon around Lisbon; despite what is a messy divorce from the Portuguese giants.
Likewise, registering 97 goals in his 102 appearances across all competitions over the past two campaigns, Gyokeres has publicly rejected any other advances and has made it clear that his sole focus is on completing what would be a blockbuster move to north London.

Not the only one coming through the doors
While Arsenal might be working tirelessly behind the scenes in an attempt to find a speedy conclusion to Gyokeres’ arrival, the 27-year-old is not the only attacking superstar who could be coming through the doors in north London.
Alongside finally completing Zubimendi’s long-awaited switch from Real Sociedad, Arsenal are advancing in talks over what is a surprise move for Chelsea ace Noni Madueke.
While the former PSV starlet might currently be away with Chelsea at this summer’s Club World Cup, the Blues are reportedly willing to part ways with the 23-year-old and Madueke himself is keen on a switch across the English capital.
Although Arsenal might not have put in an official bid for the England international yet, it was reported on Sunday that the Gunners have already agreed personal terms with Madueke and Arteta is a huge admirer of the Chelsea forward.
