Mirra Andreeva has made history at Wimbledon 2025 by becoming the youngest player to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals since Maria Sharapova in 2005. At just 18 years and 62 days old at the start of the tournament, Andreeva matched Sharapova’s age when she achieved the same feat two decades ago. The Russian teenager secured her place in the last eight with a commanding 6–2, 6–3 victory over American No. 10 seed Emma Navarro on Centre Court.
A performance beyond her years
Andreeva’s performance was marked by maturity, precision, and power. She dominated the match with a booming first serve, regularly clocking over 110 mph, and aggressive baseline play. She converted six of seven break points and saved four of six, wrapping up the match in just 75 minutes. Her ability to stay composed under pressure was evident when she admitted post-match that she had forgotten the score on match point, thinking she was still facing a break.
A surreal moment in front of tennis royalty
Adding to the occasion was the presence of Roger Federer in the Royal Box. Andreeva confessed that seeing Federer and his wife Mirka in the crowd made her nervous, saying it had been a dream of hers to see him in real life. “Honestly, it means a lot to me that you came and watched my match,” she said during her on-court interview.
A rising force in women’s tennis
This is Andreeva’s third Grand Slam quarterfinal in her last six major appearances and her second in a row. She has now won seven of her nine matches at Wimbledon and continues to impress with her rapid development on grass. Her next challenge will be against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, who also reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinal after years of trying.
A glimpse into the future
With many of the top seeds already out of the tournament, Andreeva’s run has added fresh excitement to the women’s draw. Her blend of power, poise, and youthful fearlessness has made her one of the standout stories of this year’s Championships. As she prepares for her next match, the tennis world is watching closely to see just how far this teenage sensation can go.
