Ever since Rory McIlroy won his first Masters title in April, thereby securing the career Grand Slam, the popular story has been one of struggles on the course. McIlroy himself has acknowledged a lack of motivation in competing since his Augusta achievement.

But his results on the course show a different story. Yes, he he tied for 47th at the PGA Championship and then missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open to start June. But in five solo PGA Tour starts since the Masters, he’s also put up a T7 at the Truist Championship, a T19 at the U.S Open and, most recently, a T6 at the Travelers Championship.

So as we head into the last event before the final major of the year hosted by McIlroy’s home country, the five-time major champion is very much in the conversation for a second Scottish Open and Open Championship victory.

McIlroy will kick off his opening round of the Scottish Open on Thursday at 8:43 a.m. ET (1:43 p.m. local time) alongside playing partners Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele.
