DMC & Dragon’s Dogma Producer Project Revealed Before 2025 Ends

If you liked the gameplay of Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, you’ll probably want to keep a close eye on announcements later this year, as one of the producers behind the project, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, has confirmed an announcement for his new game (which he teased previously) is set for later this year.

Kobayashi, who’s the CEO of GPTRACK50, worked at Capcom for 27 years, left in 2022, and established his own studio as part of NetEase.

Speaking to Famitsu (via Automaton), Kobayashi mentioned that the development team is making preparations for the game’s reveal and also shared that they are about to enter the voice recording phase of the project.

Kobayashi said, “While I can’t reveal any details yet, everything is going as planned. In our New Year’s greeting card for 2025, I said I wanted to announce it by the end of the year, and as a man of my word, I want to keep that promise. We’ve already entered the second half of the year, but rest assured that our studio is already preparing to make the announcement. As for how far development has progressed, we’re about to enter the voice recording phase.”

While Kobayashi’s new game will feature RPG elements, the producer says it will heavily lean on action, though he doesn’t want to paint the game as an action title, since he doesn’t want to give gamers false hope that they are making something similar to Devil May Cry.

“I used to refer to the project as an action game, but there were many people expecting it to be something like Devil May Cry because I’m involved in it. It’s not a good thing to give people the wrong idea of what to expect, so I ended up calling it an action RPG,” Kobayashi explains.

The best hack-and-slash series of all time has one flop and many masterpieces.

With just five months left in 2025, the wait won’t be that long for gamers to finally know about Kobayashi’s project. Perhaps it’s one of the big reveals at this year’s The Game Awards? Given the show usually has a ton of announcements lined up, this would make perfect sense for a reveal.

Aside from Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, Kobayashi has also worked on the Resident Evil franchise in various roles, with the recent game for Capcom being Mega Man 11. When it comes to the Devil May Cry franchise, Kobayashi last worked on Devil May Cry 4, which got mixed reviews given Dante took a backseat.

Speaking about the DMC franchise, while there’s no new Devil May Cry game announced by Capcom, the Netflix anime based on the franchise will be getting a second season confirmed.

Once we know more about Kobayashi’s project, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.
