Leeds now in the race to sign exciting £7m striker

Daniel Farke is already making some cutthroat calls at Leeds United ahead of the brand new Premier League season getting underway next month.

Speaking after his side’s hard-fought 0-0 draw with Manchester United out in Stockholm, Farke was quizzed on Patrick Bamford not being available for selection, with it being revealed that the Whites veteran isn’t a part of the West Yorkshire outfit’s first-team plans this forthcoming campaign.

That leaves Joel Piroe, Lukas Nmecha, and Mateo Joseph as the German’s main centre-forward options, but with talk also centring on the fact that Joseph could leave very soon, some more striker recruits must surely be in the offing at Elland Road.

Whilst Bamford hasn’t aged gracefully over the last couple of seasons, it will still be a big hole to fill by those at Leeds when he does up and leave, considering the 31-year-old can boast a reasonable 38 goal contributions in the Premier League.

However, it’s not as if the one-time England international is irreplaceable, with the Whites now eyeing up Rodrigo Muniz as a possible reinforcement up top from Fulham to soften Bamford’s impending exit.

After all, Muniz is only seven strikes shy of Bamford’s Premier League tally, but Farke and Co. might well explore other avenues away from singling out experienced faces when scouting out another dangerous presence to lead the line.

Indeed, Marc Guiu might well be their desired target in adding some youthful exuberance to proceedings, with football journalist Sebastien Vidal revealing via X that the newly promoted side are in a race to land the Chelsea hotshot on loan alongside Ipswich Town.

Valued at around the £7m mark by Transfermarkt, Guiu might just be what Leeds are craving this summer in landing a high-energy youngster to fight for Piroe’s starting spot, with a jaded Bamford quickly forgotten about in the process.

How Guiu can make Leeds forget about Bamford

Whilst his time at Leeds has petered out now, Bamford was once viewed as a valuable impact substitute at Elland Road, particularly when the Whites were regularly competing in the Premier League.

Leeds’ last two seasons at the daunting level saw the 31-year-old start just 25 games, yet he would still manage to leave his mark on contests with a respectable six strikes finding the back of the net.

Those numbers are nothing to write home about, but Bamford still played a worthwhile role when needed, with Guiu hoping he can offer a similar goal threat if he does make the move from West London to West Yorkshire a reality.

The “exquisite” striker – as he has been labelled by Stamford Bridge great Joe Cole in the past – has shown off his goal-scoring prowess in spurts across his fledgling career to date, with two senior goals tallied up for Barcelona, on top of also proving himself to be a menace for Enzo Maresca’s men on occasion since joining Chelsea.

Much like Bamford was capable of before he tumbled down the pecking order, Guiu has shown he can pop up with a strike out of the blue from limited opportunities, with a quickfire six goals coming about from just four Chelsea starts.

All of those strikes have come in the Europa Conference League, but with Farke’s arm around him, who was responsible for Archie Gray’s crazy rise, Guiu might well be turned into a damaging option off the bench for Leeds to rely upon in the top-flight.

There is no guarantee that Guiu will be a success, but if he can live up to his “nightmare” status – as he’s been branded by football talent scout Jacek Kulig for his relentless energy – at Elland Road, he might just be a lively spark up top that helps Leeds to push away from relegation danger.
