English football send their best wishes to the much loved former footballer and manager Ronnie Moore after his cancer diagnosis.
BBC Sheffield journalist Rob Staton announced the news on Wednesday afternoon (30 July) via his Twitter page. Hundreds of fans took to the replies to send their thoughts to the 72 year old and his family.
He tweeted: “I’ve been asked to pass this on, on behalf of Ronnie Moore, Rotherham United’s legendary former player and manager.
“Ronnie says he has been diagnosed with Myeloma, a type of blood cancer. It is treatable but not curable and will need to be managed. He will receive treatment for the next few months and will wait for a stem cell transplant in the near future.
“He says he is currently feeling well and walking regularly. He will carry on as normal and you will still see him at games. He continues to work in football and we’re hoping to have him commentating with us on BBC Sheffield for Rotherham games.”

Fellow presenter Adam Oxley tweeted: “Sending my best wishes to Millers legend Ronnie Moore after his Myeloma diagnosis. Very much hope to see him at a game or in a commentary box soon.”
Rotherham said in a statement: “The thoughts and unwavering support of everyone at Rotherham United are with legendary former player and manager Ronnie Moore, who has been diagnosed with Myeloma – a type of blood cancer.
“We have been informed that Ronnie will now receive treatment in the coming months and he will await a stem cell transplant for a cancer that is treatable, but sadly incurable and will need to be managed by medical professionals.
“We are pleased to hear that Ronnie is currently feeling well and walking regularly.
“A true legend of the football club, Ronnie will continue to be welcome to attend matches at AESSEAL New York Stadium and will, of course, have the full backing of everyone at Rotherham United throughout the journey that lies ahead.
“We know that our fanbase and the wider football family will join us in offering our unequivocal support to an immeasurably-respected and rightly-celebrated individual and we are confident that will be done in a way which respects the privacy of Ronnie, his family and his friends.
“We’re all right with you, Ronnie.”

As per the NHS website, main symptoms of myeloma may include:
– bone pain – you may feel this in your back, hips, shoulders or ribs
– feeling very tired for no reason
– shortness of breath
– muscle weakness
– headaches
– feeling very thirsty and needing to pee more often than usual
– losing weight without trying
Sometimes myeloma does not cause symptoms at first. You may find out you have it after having a blood test for another reason.
Non-urgent advice:See a GP if you think you may have myeloma
Urgent advice:
Ask for an urgent GP appointment or get help from NHS 111 if you have:
– difficulty breathing – you may be more short of breath than usual
Immediate action required:
Call 999 if you or someone else:
– suddenly lose feeling in your arms or legs, or cannot walk or stand
– suddenly feel confused
– suddenly cannot control when you poo or pee
These could be a sign of a condition called spinal cord compression which needs to be treated immediately. Do not drive yourself to A&E. The person you speak to at 999 will give you advice about what to do.
Some of the symptoms of myeloma are very common and can be caused by other conditions. Having the symptoms does not definitely mean you have myeloma, but it’s important to get checked by a GP. If your symptoms are caused by cancer, finding it early may mean it’s easier to treat.
