Prime Video Has 8 Exciting Fantasy TV Shows Coming Up, Despite Wheel Of Time’s Cancellation

Despite Prime Video canceling The Wheel of Time after season 3, the streaming service already has several other fantasy shows in development that fans of the genre can look forward to. The Wheel of Time was canceled after season 3 due to a decline in viewership, though the show’s reviews actually got better with each season.

Fans of The Wheel of Time books always had mixed reviews of the series, but even with the valid criticisms, it was an ambitious and exciting show. Sadly, the series has now joined the ranks of other failed fantasy projects that should have been huge, but Prime Video already has other exciting additions to the genre coming down the pike.

Powerless

The Romantasy Adaptation Is In Development

The Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts featuring the covers of Powerless, Reckless, and Fearless

Chances are, if you have been on romantasy BookTok recently, you have probably heard of Lauren Roberts’ Powerless trilogy. Luckily for fans of the popular book series, a TV show is in the works at Prime Video. Powerless is a romantasy series that centers on Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary (powerless) woman in a world that revolves around the Elites (people with powers).

In order to get by, Paedyn pretends to be a psychic, but this ultimately leads her into more danger as she is announced as a competitor in the Purging Trials for Elites. At the same time, as she struggles to stay alive, Paedyn finds herself increasingly drawn to the prince, Kai Azer.

With three books in the series, the project could give Prime Video a solid new fantasy show to run for several years.

As of now, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that the series is in development, and that it is being adapted by Daphne Ferraro (via Deadline). The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4

The Series Has Also Been Renewed For A Fifth And Final Season

It may not be a new fantasy series, but the return of The Legend of Vox Machina is just as exciting. Based on the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina follows the titular seven-member crew as they take on various missions.

Across its three seasons so far, the series has received critical acclaim, so the decision to renew the animated series makes complete sense. Recently, at San Diego Comic-Con, the show’s team confirmed that The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 will air in 2026.

Even better, Amazon has also confirmed that the series will receive a fifth and final season, allowing the show to come to a well-planned conclusion.

Prime Video’s live-action God of War TV series has long been talked about, but since its confirmation in 2022, very little has happened. Now, the series’ showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, has now confirmed that it is finally moving forward — and that Prime Video has already requested two seasons.

Screen Rant’s Joe Deckelmeier recently spoke to Ronald D. Moore about God of War while at Comic-Con, and the showrunner shared even more information about the production. Along with Amazon getting the rights to the Powerless series, the streaming giant has also acquired the rights to Rebecca Yarros’ incredibly popular Empyrean series. Prime Video has held the rights to Fourth Wing since 2023, but the show’s development has been notably slow since then.

Amazon MGM Studios boss explains how the platform’s Fourth Wing adaptation will approach its source material’s graphic violence and sex.

Initially, it was announced that Moira Walley-Beckett (who previously worked on Breaking Bad) would serve as the showrunner, but in July 2025 Deadline confirmed that she had left the production, with Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision, Agatha All Along) potentially taking over. With nothing confirmed yet, it will likely be some time before the Fourth Wing series premieres.

The YA fantasy series has been a huge hit since its release in 2023, so whenever Fourth Wing does premiere its sure to be a hit for Amazon.

While waiting for The Legend of Vox Machina season 4, its spinoff, The Mighty Nein, will make the perfect replacement. Excitingly, the series is set to premiere this fall — on November 19, 2025, to be exact.

The Rings Of Power Season 3

The Lord Of The Rings Prequel Is Returning

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power currently has two seasons already streaming for fantasy fans to enjoy, and a third is currently in development. So far, the series has brought various events from Middle-earth’s Second Age to life, but given the extent of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, there is plenty more to adapt.

While some audience members have voiced complaints about the adaptation, it has largely received positive reviews from critics and is one of Prime Video’s most-watched shows, making its future feel slightly safer than The Wheel of Time‘s.

The Atlas Six

Olivie Blake’s Series’ Adaptation Has Been Announced

This collage shows Moiraine Damodred from The Wheel of Time in front of The Atlas Six's book cover.

The rights to Olivie Blake’s dark academia book, The Atlas Six, were purchased by Amazon Studios in a bidding war back in 2021. At the time, it was announced that Alexene Farol Follmuth (Blake’s real name) would be helping Amazon develop the series with the production company Brightstar (via Deadline).

However, since then, neither the author nor Amazon have given anything away about the project, or even revealed if it is still in development. When The Atlas Six was first released, it became a huge sensation on TikTok, and quickly amassed a huge fan base. So, if the series does move forward soon, it should have a solid audience.

While The Atlas Six is not a high fantasy series like The Wheel of Time, the two works do share some themes. Both deal with fate, religion, and the nature of power, creating an interesting parallel. Though The Wheel of Time will be impossible to truly replace, Prime Video’s upcoming shows will give fantasy fans plenty of new options.
