As he continues his run at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto, Casper Ruud has more than just tennis on his mind. The Norwegian star recently offered fans a rare glimpse into his personal life, revealing that he’s been actively involved in planning his upcoming wedding to fiancée Maria Galligani.
Between matches and training sessions, the ATP veteran has been juggling venue hunting and wedding preparations, showing a refreshingly human side to his professional tennis career.

In a candid segment on Tennis Channel following his third-round win, Ruud explained how skipping the grass-court season allowed him to focus on personal matters beyond tennis.
“I had some time to plan my wedding for next year,” he shared. “So I was quite involved in some planning and time to do other stuff that you typically don’t have time for. So it was nice. I was a little bit on the boat on the water and really just enjoyed being a normal person with some holiday.”
The strategic break from grass courts gave Ruud the freedom to step away from his usual tennis-focused routine. Instead of grinding through Wimbledon preparation and matches, he embraced the opportunity to experience life outside the professional tennis bubble.
What Role Is Ruud Taking in Planning His 2026 Wedding?
The 26-year-old got engaged to Galligani in November 2024, and the couple, together since 2018, has begun serious preparations for a summer 2026 wedding. When asked about his level of involvement in the planning process, Ruud admitted that he wanted a say in the major decisions while letting his fiancée handle the finer details.
“We had some trips overseas to find the right location since I didn’t play the grass,” he shared. “I had time to go for some trips and to find the perfect location, and we did. I won’t tell you the location, I’ll tell you the time. It will be next summer. But the location should be a surprise.”
However, Ruud acknowledged that while he’s actively involved in venue selection and timing, he’s more than happy to let Maria handle the aesthetic elements. The tennis star showed his practical approach to wedding planning, focusing on the elements that matter most to him while trusting his partner’s vision for the celebration details.
“There are certain details like colors and details on the table, I spaced out completely,” he joked. “But I’ll let Maria decide everything. I wanted to have a say on the place and the time and know a little bit about the biggest cost, what I’m paying for.”
Moving forward in Toronto, Ruud will face No. 11 seed Karen Khachanov in the fourth round. This will be their third meeting on the ATP Tour, and Ruud holds a dominant 2-0 head-to-head record against the Russian. The winner of this match will advance to face either 26th seed Alex Michelsen or Learner Tien in the quarterfinals.
