71st National Film Awards: : Shah Rukh Khan made his film debut in the 1992 movie Deewana. He went on to star in a number of films, but it was flicks like Baazigar and Darr that really boosted his reputation. SRK is currently one of India’s top superstars, with a large foreign fan base. Following 33 years in the business, SRK finally received his first National Award for his performance in Jawan at the 71st National Film Awards, which were announced on Friday, August 1, 2025. Shah Rukh Khan played a dual part in Atlee’s Jawan, and his performance in the film left everyone impressed.
But the question remains, why did King Khan not receive a national award in 33 years, given the fact that he has given us some of the beautiful films like Swades and Chak De India and more.
Why Shah Rukh Khan didn’t win a National Award in 33 years?

Everyone believed that SRK would win the National Award, and these are without a doubt his four best films.
When Ajay, Saif win but SRK misses for Devdas, Swades
Ajay Devgn won Best Actor for The Legend of Bhagat Singh in the year Devdas was eligible for the awards. Saif Ali Khan received a National Award for Hum Tum in the year that Swades were eligible for the honours.
When SRK missed Best actor again
Chak De India had won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award, but Prakash Raj received the Best Actor award that year for his role in the Tamil film Kanchivaram. Dhanush (Aadukalam) and Salim Kumar (Adaminte Makan Abu) had won the National Award that year, and My Name Is Khan was eligible for the awards.
But finally we’re glad that SRK has received a national award. The question, “Why Shah Rukh Khan didn’t win a National Award in 33 years?” will, nevertheless, undoubtedly remain in the hearts of his admirers.
