Liverpool will play two games in the space of five hours against the same opponent on Monday, with Anfield getting its first sighting of Arne Slot‘s side for 2025/26.
Liverpool vs. Athletic Club
Friendly (4 and 5) | Anfield
August 4, 2025 | 5pm and 8pm (BST)
After concluding their two-stop tour of Asia with a victory over Yokohama FM, Liverpool are back on Merseyside as they look to put the finishing touches on their pre-season preparations.
The return to Anfield will see fans pay their respects to Diogo Jota before kickoff on what will be another emotional tribute to our No. 20.
Kick-offs at 5pm AND 8pm
The double-header at Anfield will see two different kick-off times, first at 5pm and then 8pm (BST).
Expect to see different XIs in play as Slot pushes his squad closer to completing 90 minutes with the new season less than two weeks away.
A reminder if you have a ticket to the match, it grants you access to both friendlies – but no entry will be permitted solely for the 8pm kickoff, so don’t get caught out!
Who will be involved?
Liverpool concluded their trip to Japan with only one fitness issue after Joe Gomez returned home early with an Achilles injury, meaning he will take no part.
Alisson returned to Brazil for personal reasons with it unclear if he will be back to feature, though Alexis Mac Allister is available after his first outing in Japan.
Tyler Morton is close to joining Lyon and therefore will not feature, while there will be intrigue over Federico Chiesa after he remained behind during the two-stop tour.
Anfield will, however, get the first sighting of all of Liverpool’s new signings to date – and in their new permanent squad numbers.
There will almost certainly be a number of academy players called up with two different XIs required, with Amara Nallo, Kaide Gordon and Jayden Danns among those who could be involved.
Liverpool’s expected available squad:
Goalkeepers: Alisson*, Mamardashvili, Woodman, Pecsi
Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Bradley, Frimpong, Kerkez, Robertson, Tsimikas, Stephenson
Midfielders: Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jones, Endo, Elliott, Nyoni
Forwards: Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Nunez, Ekitike, Doak, Ngumoha
* Doubtful

First outing in new Adidas home kit
Liverpool officially launched their new Adidas home kit on Friday and we will get the first up-close look at Anfield on Monday.
Both games will be played in the new home strip with the away kit to debut during the Community Shield against Crystal Palace next weekend.
Any guesses for which player may opt for the long sleeve option?
A closer look at Athletic Club
Ernesto Valverde’s side finished fourth in La Liga last season, their equal-best finish since 2013/14, and it has earned them a place in the Europa League.
They were boosted over the summer by winger Nico Williams’ decision to extend his contract and snub interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Defenders Aitor Paredes and Unai Egiluz are currently training separately after respective hamstring and knee injuries, making their inclusion at Anfield unlikely.
