Queen Letizia shuns ancient jewels for eye catching gold piece

Queen Letizia never fails to surprise with her style picks and she had another unexpected fashion moment at her latest appearance. She chose some very striking and very modern jewellery that caught everyone’s attention as she handed out the prizes at a film festival.

The piece in question was an eye catching gold bracelet which the Queen of Spain wore with a simple white dress with corset style waist.

The chunky gem was wrapped half way up her lower arm and featured large, curling leaf shapes.

It matched her gold earrings which had a botanic design.

Both are the creations of Suma Cruz whose pieces Letizia has worn before and form part of the Indico collection.

Queen Letizia wore them for her first official engagement in Mallorca this summer. The Spanish royals always spend the end of July and start of August at their home on the island.

Letizia was guest of honour as the annual Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest came to a close in Palma. The Queen of Spain has been a big fan of the festival since it started up just fifteen years ago.

She arrived at the La Misericordia Cultural Centre for the closing ceremony of the festival on a warm summer’s evening. Her dress echoed the weather with the Spanish queen choosing a mid length white dress with corset style waist that hit all the summer vibes.

The festival finished with the presentation of its most important honour, the prize of Master of Cinema, being awarded to Alberto Iglesias by Queen Letizia.

Although this is Letizia’s first official engagement of this year’s stay in Mallorca, it’s not the first time she’s been seen on the island.

A few days earlier, she was spotted heading to the cinema with her two daughters, Princess Leonor, 19, and 18 year old Infanta Sofia.

The trio went to the Rivoli Aficine cinema in Palma to see an acclaimed Spanish documentary film ‘En un lugar de la mente’.

Letizia is often seen going to the movies, often with her husband King Felipe, and is known to be a big film fan.

King Felipe has already carried out a range of appearances in Mallorca as the Spanish royal holidays get going, including meetings with local politicians and his traditional summer audience with Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez.

The Spanish king was also seen out and about at the weekend with his elder daughter, Princess Leonor, who joined him for a day’s sailing.

The King and Queen of Spain are set to host the traditional reception for dignitaries across Mallorca at the Palace of the Almudaina on the island. It’s not yet clear whether Queen Sofia, King Felipe’s mother, will join them. Sofia has been at the reception every year for decades now and is known to love staying on Mallorca. However, approaching her 87th birthday, she is now taking a much more low key role in royal events.

It’s also not known whether Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia will join their parents at the event. The two are taking on more royal engagements and recently travelled to Switzerland together to cheer on the Spanish women’s football team as they took on England in the final of the 2025 Euros. They met up with Prince William and Princess Charlotte who were there to support England who ultimately triumphed in the final.

After their stay on Mallorca, Spain’s royals will head off on private holidays before late summer brings more changes. Leonor, first in line to the throne, is set to begin a year’s training with her country’s air force while Sofia is about to start a three year university course.
