How To Remove Alma From Photos

Monster Hunter Wild’s Title Update 2 wasn’t just exciting for the additions of Seregios and Lagiacrus. On top of all the new cosmetics and balance changes, the Photo Mode has also seen some improvements. While the new Effects tab is neat for including adjustable image options and filters, it’s the long-requested addition of removing NPCs and effects in Photo Mode that deserves our attention. If you’re trying to erase Alma from your photos or remove the Dragon Ball Z-like auras that skills and talismans give you, we can help.

How to Stop Alma From Ruining Photos

Let’s be real, this is likely the main reason you’re here. The only thing more guaranteed than a Tempered Mizutsune knocking you out in one hit is Alma and her Seikret wandering into your perfect camera shots. Good thing we can now prevent that from happening.

Here are the steps to make your handler disappear while taking pictures:

  • While in Photo Mode, press L1/LB to bring up the Edit Menu
  • Press R1/RB to switch over to the Character Display tab
  • Toggle “Handler” to remove Alma or Eric (and their Seikret) in the photo mode

This will immediately take effect whether you’re using the live Photo Mode or accessing it after pausing the game. Just hit that toggle and your handler will poof out of existence. The two toggles below it do the same for your Palico and Seikret.

How to Remove Glowing Buff Effects

Although Alma can be one of the biggest obstacles when taking pictures, the glowing buff effects are just as annoying sometimes. Monster Hunter Wilds provides a visual representation of many buffs by adding a colorful aura to your player character. While these can be helpful, they’re also an eyesore during combat and especially while taking pictures.

To turn off glowing buff effects in pictures, head over to the Character Display tab in the Edit Menu and then toggle off both Hunter Lighting Effects and Hunter Talisman Effects. Toggling these will specifically remove glowing effects from skills and talismans.

You’re not limited to only removing these in Photo Mode. They can also be turned off during gameplay, but you’ll need to dive through some menus first. Here is how to remove the glowing effect during gameplay:

  • Open the Options Menu
  • Switch over to the third page
  • Toggle the Activate Skill/Item Effects and Equipped Talisman Effect options to Do Not Display

What are Scoutfly Effects and Hunter Outline?

You’ve probably already noticed that Monster Hunter Wilds doesn’t offer the best explanations at times. Most of the Character Display toggles are easy to discern by switching them off and on, but adjusting Scoutfly Effects and Hunter Outline might seem like they don’t do anything. These options are situation-specific, just like the glowing buffs are.

Turning off Scoutfly Effects will only remove the highlight over any nearby resources your Scoutfly automatically marked. It’s a nice thing to toggle if there’s a random bush glowing green in your photo, although it sadly doesn’t remove the bright Scoutfly line that leads towards a waypoint.

The Hunter Outline toggle refers to the outline that appears around your hunter when they’re being blocked by a monster. If you’re trying to take some pictures of a monster during combat and don’t want the highly visible outline of your hunter, turn this off for a more natural photo.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.
