Olivia Rodrigo has kept quiet about her upcoming third album, but at a recent concert, she finally confessed it’s almost here. Rodrigo blew up with “driver’s license” in 2021 and followed it up with a successful debut album. In 2023, she released GUTS and has been promoting it since.
The #1 album inspired her second tour, the GUTS World Tour, and in 2024, she even released a recording of the concert on Netflix. Unfortunately, however, she hasn’t given any updates as to what’s next for her. That has since changed at her final festival show for the GUTS album.
Olivia Rodrigo Teased Her Next Album, OR3, At Osheaga
Fans have been anticipating another Olivia Rodrigo album all year, and the star finally gave a hint that her third album is on its way. After finishing her GUTS World Tour, Olivia Rodrigo completed a successful music festival run with various stops, including Governor’s Ball in New York City and Lollapalooza in Chicago.
However, on August 3rd, the Disney Channel ex-act completed her festival tour at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival. Since the GUTS tour, Rodrigo has ended her concert in a fun t-shirt with a special phrase.
For example, at one of her Madison Square Garden shows, she referenced Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw. At an LA show, she advocated for reproductive rights with a “Bans Off Our Bodies” shirt.
For the Osheaga Festival, the last official GUTS Tour stop, Rodrigo came on stage in a red t-shirt with the number three on it.
After her last song, the pop star said goodbye to the GUTS era and handed her iconic GUTS rings to the audience members. The act was an obvious goodbye to her second studio album and an announcement that her third is finally on the way.
The Performance Tells Us Quite A Bit About Her Next Album
While Olivia Rodrigo is yet to announce the title or any tracks on her third studio album, the singer offered some insight during the performance. Since her debut album SOUR, Olivia Rodrigo has made purple her signature color. However, there were a lot of fan theories that she would soon be switching to red.
The theories may have been inspired by something Taylor Swift did years ago when she went from her purple album Speak Now into her next era, Red. However, Rodrigo also offered some of her own clues that she might be following suit.
When Rodrigo released GUTS Spilled, the GUTS deluxe album, she changed the album cover so the purple bra peaking out from her tank top was now red. The singer also wore red quite a lot throughout her festival run, including a red leather one-piece and her red electric guitar.
The red t-shirt at her final GUTS show seems to suggest her third album is going to have a red theme. Fans have also theorized that Olivia Rodrigo’s third album will be about love. Her first two albums heavily focused on heartbreak and being a young woman in the world.
However, Rodrigo has been dating actor Louis Partridge since 2023, and the two seem deeply in love. She even released a love song about him on GUTS Spilled, called “so american.”
While she hasn’t confirmed that OR3 will be a love album, the red aesthetic hints toward this possibility. Whatever Olivia Rodrigo chooses to do for her third album, fans should be excited that it’s likely coming soon.
