Zoë Kravitz Shines In Hulu’s Underrated High Fidelity Series

Zoë Kravitz has had an impressive career so far with many major projects to her name, but one of her best performances is in Hulu’s hidden gem, High Fidelity. From superhero films to thrillers and action blockbusters, Zoë Kravitz’s best movies and shows highlight her immense talent as a performer.

Zoë Kravitz has appeared in several big films over the years, including Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: First Class, and The Batman, but some of her best work comes from smaller projects in between. Hulu’s High Fidelity is the perfect example of Kravitz at her best, and it’s a shame the series goes under the radar compared to her more major roles.

High Fidelity Is One Of Zoë Kravitz’s Best Performances

Based on the 1995 novel of the same name by author Nick Hornby, High Fidelity is the second adaptation of the incredible source material, following John Cusack’s 2000 film. Updated for the modern era, Zoë Kravitz takes on Cusack’s role of Robyn “Rob” Brooks, a record-store owner who revisits past relationships through the lens of music.

Zoë Kravitz is so great as Rob, justifying the gender-flipped concept while being the heart and soul of the series. It’s one of the best roles of her entire career, and a must-watch for fans of the actor, the book, or even the original film. With the abundance of prestige shows, High Fidelity was the perfect hangout romantic comedy.

Why The High Fidelity Show Is Better Than The Movie

High Fidelity Perfectly Updates The Material For Modern Audiences

High Fidelity‘s Rob Gordon is one of John Cusack’s best roles. It is still a fantastic movie with a sublime soundtrack and great performances from its supporting cast. Still, the High Fidelity series might just be better than the movie, with Zoë Kravitz at the center of the series is one of the biggest reasons.

The show does a fantastic job of updating the source material to a modern audience, featuring a more diverse set of characters that are allowed to be developed more than the movie did, given the TV format. Its focus on a female perspective is also refreshing, especially when few shows allow their lead characters to be as messy as Kravitz’s Rob.

Why High Fidelity Was Canceled After Just One Season

The Viewership For The Series Wasn’t Great Enough

Despite earning rave reviews and having an incredible cast of characters, Hulu decided to cancel High Fidelity after only one season, even with the somewhat open ending that would have been perfect to explore. Zoë Kravitz was not happy with High Fidelity‘s cancellation, and in an interview with Esquire, she brought up how she feels about what happened to it, stating:

Every time I let it go, somebody reminds me that they love it. And it happens. It’s the most mentioned project to me… I’m so sad about that show. It meant so much to me, and I see now that it meant so much to other people. I feel like we had so many places to go.

Like most shows that get cancelled in the streaming era, High Fidelity‘s viewership wasn’t high enough for the studio to justify making another season, which is a real shame. High Fidelity might not have gotten the chance to explore its story further, but it is still a fantastic series and one of Zoë Kravitz’s best performances.
