Australia is experiencing a home battery boom, with new data showing one in two households want to pair a household battery with new or existing rooftop solar to maximise their energy savings.
Energy solutions provider VoltX Energy has seen a staggering 2000% growth in the last 12 months, as upfront costs plummet and skyrocketing demand from households who want to take control of their rising energy bills.
“We are really seeing Australia supercharge its home battery rollout with a boom like never before with people realising the economic benefits with the cost of a home battery falling by 20% in the last 12 months as electricity bills rise to record highs,” said VoltX Energy Chief Operating Officer David Sedighi.
“We know a home battery can cut energy bills to zero allowing homes to capture, store and use their own energy, removing the need for electricity from the grid.
“We predict another 160,000 new household battery installations will occur across Australia in the next 12 months,” he said.
Data from the Climate Council shows 9.5% of homes in NSW with solar now have a home battery, while in South Australia it’s 13.9 % and just 4% in Queensland.
Since the federal rebate announcement, VoltX Energy has seen substantial increases in demand up 390% in Queensland, South Australia seeing a 315% increase and New South Wales a 160% spike as compared to June 2025
“This level of growth is unprecedented. A year ago, we were installing a modest number of batteries each month — today, that number has grown by over 2,000%, with consistent momentum month after month,” said Mr Sedighi, with forecasts to see that growth double this quarter.
“Our business has grown at a pace even we didn’t anticipate which is a clear sign of how quickly the market is shifting in Australia,” said Mr Sedighi.
Mr Sedighi said the biggest barrier was the number of qualified installers available.
“Right now, across the industry there’s a shortage of qualified installers because no one anticipated this kind of dramatic acceleration, but with power bills more expensive than ever more Australians are wanting to install a home battery because within three years it’s paid for itself,” Mr Sedighi said.
“Homes with solar panels are already more common than a backyard swimming pool and now household batteries are making them even more popular because they can eliminate reliance on the main grid entirely.
“What is interesting is the size of the battery being installed has also changed, with more people opting for a stronger 30kWh system which can supply an entire household’s energy use.
“We have customers who no longer receive a bill, but the electricity provider now pays them for the energy they release back into the grid.”
