A video has emerged of Wrexham fans having to run back into the Racecourse Stadium after missing two late goals scored against Hull.
Wrexham went on to win on penalties in a dramatic Carabao Cup first-round fixture, decided by a penalty shootout after substitute Ollie Palmer’s two stoppage-time goals.
Elliot Lee had put Wrexham ahead with a deflected shot, but Oli McBurnie levelled for Hull. Substitutes Joel Ndala and Matt Crooks put Hull 3-1 up, but Palmer’s late headers forced penalties. Wrexham won 5-3, with Ndala’s miss proving decisive.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said, per Leader Live: “We showed that we never give up and I think the trait of the team and the club over the past three or four years is that.
“The story of the night was that when we started believing in that first half and got hold of the ball and got some control of the game, I think we did well, then got the first goal from that.
“We’re not a team here to sit off and watch the opposition play at this level, we can play, we’ve got good players, and we grew in belief in the first half, got the goal and then disappointingly when they scored, I felt we stopped playing and believing we could play.
“We spoke to the lads about that at half time and I think second half we started the better team; we had the chances to go and take the game away from them. Then just one moment has cost us and then they get the third and the game becomes very open.
“The lads kept believing and two fantastic crosses, the first from Jimmy (McClean) and big Ollie has got on the end of it. Then a magnificent bit of wide man play, old fashioned wide play from Barney (Barnett) to stand it up and so pleased for big Ollie as he’s the hero tonight.”
On Palmer: “He’s been a cult player for us over the years, he’s been brilliant. He’s conducted himself amazingly well last year when we made changes and I explained the decisions to him, but he wanted to stay and be a part of it, and he was.
“Tonight, he’s got his opportunity and he’s taken it, and that’s what football’s about, never write anyone off. Sometimes the scene is set for a hero to be created and just pleased for the big man tonight.”
Hull’s Sergej Jakirović: “This is football. It’s never finished until the referee blows the whistle.
“We played a very good game. We controlled everything – had a 3-1 lead. Then, we stopped playing. We had possession but not any more progression in the opponent’s half; we just kept the ball.
“We made two mistakes, especially the first. We didn’t block a very good cross and we lost players in the box, which is crucial. They can score just like this – we knew it before the game from the analysis.
“I’ve never won on penalties, so I knew how it would be – it’s a feeling.
“The boys gave everything on the pitch. We must look forward. Maybe these situations from today can be put somewhere in our mind. It’s a very good experience for the future.”
There was plenty of reaction online upon seeing Wrexham fans run back into the stadium after missing two late goals scored against Hull…
@wxm_afc: They should have entered a ballot to get back in!
@jrwilliams32: @Wrexham_AFC stadium bans for every last one of these please👍🏼
@andyjames97: Hopefully they didn’t get back in
@ConnorWxm: Surely they’d have learned by now to never leave a wrexham game early.
@WxmSimpson: Plastics.
@Paskins_tache: I’m not a fan of banning fans for stuff, but each and everyone of these wants a minimum five year ban.
@Brett_leverton: Hope they weren’t allowed back in.
@safc_lex: What are they hoping to achieve by jogging back? My dad always drummed it into me you never leave a match early. As a season ticket holder for SAFC for 26 years you can imagine how much I’ve cursed him over the years but we’ve also seen some last gasp winners that stay with you!
@wrexhameire: Never. Ever. Leave a Wrexham game early!!
@StepneyHammer: They can always catch up on Disney+ in about 8 months
@cfc1888_: Surely wouldn’t get back in & deservedly so. No issues with people leaving early if they’ve got reasons but these cunts clearly just gave up and said “ah well, we’ve lost, up the road”. Always stay to the full time whistle.
@jimbobram92: Look at them running back into Disney world
@MFC_Steve: Bit like when they rushed back to the club when Rob and Ryan took over
@HcafcW97504: Probably their first game tbf
@RUFCGeorge: Not like Wrexham fans to only join in once things start going well
@RichardMurp: To be fair, they only just started to follow a team
@TruthnotT: Embarrassing behaviour
@brfc_reece: Some ‘Fans’ They are leaving early
@dingjoseph1871: Wrexham fans showing once again what an embarrassing fanbase they are
@FanHubHatter: Shouldn’t be let back in
@adam_spoon: I’m no football fan, but if you fuck off early because any team you support (or play for) is getting spanked, you’re a cunt… stick around until the end
