JackRabbit Micro Hauler Showdown: Doble or Renegade?

JACKRABBITEDITED 0651 2

JackRabbit has once again pushed the boundaries of small EV innovation with the launch of its MG Platform, debuting two unique models under a brand-new category: the Micro Hauler. These are not oversized e-bikes or underpowered scooters, but lightweight, modular, and utility-focused electric rides designed for real-world hauling, commuting, and exploring. The first two variants – MG Doble and MG Renegade – bring distinct personalities to this fresh segment, catering to riders with different missions in mind.

MG Doble: Tandem-Friendly Compact Hauler

The MG Doble is purpose-built for those who want to share the ride. With a tandem-ready two-up seat, it takes on the challenge that bulky, vanity-first tandem e-bikes struggle with – offering a smart blend of power and portability. Its cargo-geared 749W motor delivers enough torque to carry two riders comfortably, yet the total weight tips the scale at just 52 lbs. Thanks to its fold-flat frame, the MG Doble can fit in a truck cab, car trunk, or RV storage bay without hassle. Plus, with 10+ attachment points, it can haul camping gear, groceries, or sports equipment alongside its passengers.

MG Renegade: Rugged, Off-Road Power

For those who prefer a solo mission with serious muscle, the MG Renegade is the lightweight powerhouse of the duo. Weighing only 44 lbs, it’s built for off-road capability and heavy payload handling. The larger frame is tailored for bigger riders and more demanding terrain, making it perfect for uphill climbs, rough trails, or hauling substantial cargo. Whether it’s exploring unpaved backroads, navigating snow-packed paths, or moving tools across a large property, the MG Renegade delivers confident performance without the weight penalty of a full-sized bike.

Shared DNA: What Both MG Models Offer

While each model has its unique strengths, the MG Doble and MG Renegade share the same core engineering philosophy. Both feature a fold-flat design, reach speeds up to 20 mph (24 mph in Off-Road Mode), and provide a real-world range of up to 48+ miles. Hydraulic brakes ensure low-maintenance, consistent stopping power, while an ultra-high-visibility color display keeps ride data clear in any light. Their mullet-wheel setup – larger front wheel for smoother roll-over and smaller rear wheel for easier mounting – offers a practical balance of stability and accessibility. Being pedal-free and chain-free, they’re low-maintenance and fully modular, compatible with thousands of bike accessories.

Choosing the Right Micro Hauler

If your lifestyle involves frequent two-up adventures or carrying both a passenger and cargo, the MG Doble makes perfect sense. Its extra seating capacity and balanced handling make it ideal for urban or leisure rides with a friend. On the other hand, if your priority is rugged solo riding, hauling heavy loads, and tackling diverse terrain, the MG Renegade is the better fit. With the MG Platform, JackRabbit has created a versatile, portable EV lineup that challenges the norms of personal transport. Both models are available in Silver, with more colors promised in future releases, and both hit the market at $2,499.99 starting August 12, 2025.
