One princess who has spent several years living abroad with her family is suddenly undertaking a growing number of engagements for her royal house with her latest outing focused on a crucial matter.
Princess Marie of Denmark has been living in France and the US with her husband, Prince Joachim, the younger brother of King Frederik X. The two moved overseas several years ago and were quickly caught up in a row about a decision to remove the royal titles of their children.
However, in the past months, Marie has carried out a number of official engagements and has now undertaken a very important duty. The princess was Birkerød to visit the Emergency Management Headquarters where she heard about their role in the current security policy.
Underlining the serious nature of this engagement, Marie was accompanied by Minister of Emergency Response and Social Safety, Torsten Schack Pedersen, and Department Manager from the Ministry of Social Security and Emergency Response, Lisbet Zilmer-Johns.
The princess also oversaw the ceremonies for the change of managers at the board with former director Christine Engel Christensen handing over to Kenneth Pedersen.
It was an important moment in the royal diary and Marie’s presence didn’t go unnoticed.
It comes just hours after the princess had carried out another high profile public appearance, this time with her two children accompanying her.
Count Henrik and Countess Athena joined their mother at the Copenhagen Cooking festival where they helped judge several competitions.
Among the contests getting royal approval were the race to make the best ratatouille, inspired by the cuisine of guest region Provence, and the ice cream competition.
French born Marie and her two children also joined in a game of petanque.
The visit to the Emergency Management Headquarters was Princess Marie’s third engagement in as many days. Her week had begun in Frederiksberg where she visited the Positive Group, set up in 1985 as a venue and patient association for HIV positive gay and bisexual men.
The princess met many of the volunteers who continue to run the association which offers support and a sense of community.
Marie has been the highest profile member of the Danish Royal Family in recent times. Queen Mary has just returned to her official duties after her summer break and King Frederik is back on the beat with a visit to the Sirius Sled Patrol in Greenland where he attended the celebrations for their 75th anniversary.
However, the focus will be back on Frederik and Mary next week as the Danish king and queen begin their summer tour which will see them visit a number of areas on the royal yacht.
