Gibbs Romance With Diane Better Than Lala’s In NCIS: Origins Season 2

NCIS: Origins season 2 already has a strong romantic pair that is better than Gibbs and Lala’s questionable relationship. While the NCIS spinoff has not had a large focus on romantic personal relationships, Gibbs and Lala’s relationship has been a popular side plot throughout season 1. Even so, NCIS: Origins season 2 has a better one.

The NCIS prequel is meant to look at Gibbs in the years following the loss of his wife and daughter. NCIS: Origins season 1 looked closely at the tension between Gibbs and Lala, his partner at NIS. However, the season 1 finale introduced Gibbs’ ex-wife, Diane, a key, overlooked character that actually overshadows any potential romance between Gibbs and Lala.

Gibbs Has A Stronger Connection With Diane Than Lala

In the final moments of the NCIS: Origins season 1 finale, Gibbs met his ex-wife Diane, a real estate agent who would become Gibbs’ second wife after Shannon. From the moment they met, Gibbs and Diane had immediate and palpable chemistry. They were only together for a moment, but Diane complimenting Gibbs’ eyes quickly spoke to their connection.

In contrast, Gibbs and Lala do not share that same energy. While there is definitely romantic tension between the pair, which is especially highlighted in the undercover case in NCIS: Origins episode 6 or their almost kiss in the finale, Gibbs and Lala’s connection is different. They may find each other attractive, but they are missing key chemistry.

In addition, Gibbs and Lala are in a will-they-won’t-they relationship, even after working together for almost a year. This is in comparison to Gibbs and Diane, whose chemistry was immediate. Both these things speak to Gibbs having a stronger connection with Diane. Gibbs may feel romantic tension with both women, but Diane’s pull is stronger.

NCIS: Origins Can Finally Highlight Gibbs and Diane’s Early Beginnings

Now that Diane was introduced in the season 1 finale, she could have a bigger role in NCIS: Origins season 2. NCIS: Origins can also finally show the early beginnings of Gibbs and Diane’s relationship. From NCIS, we know that they were a sweet couple at first, but that Diane never felt like she could live up to Shannon.

As a result, Gibbs and Diane’s marriage was relatively short. However, Diane remained an important character in Gibbs’ life, even appearing throughout NCIS. NCIS may have shown their present relationship, but NCIS: Origins can go deeper and show how they came to be. It would also be a great way to honor Diane after her death in NCIS season 12.
