The first week of the college football season didn’t disappoint, with action-packed games happening throughout the day.
Perhaps the biggest surprise came in the matchup between Florida State and No. 8 Alabama, where the Seminoles shocked the world by taking down the Crimson Tide. Following the loss, fans have started calling for Alabama to fire Kalen DeBoer, who has been a disappointment as the team’s head coach, to say the least.

Fans Call For Kalen DeBoer to Be Fired Following Loss to Florida State
In 2024, DeBoer took over the Alabama program following Nick Saban’s retirement. Saban left massive shoes to fill, as he’s arguably the greatest college football coach of all time, winning six national titles with the Tide.
DeBoer’s first year wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. Alabama won just nine games, the first time the program failed to reach double-digit wins since 2007.
The pressure was already high heading into this season, and it’s only mounting after Alabama opened 2025 with a loss to Florida State, despite entering the game as a 14-point favorite.
According to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, during Saban’s tenure as Alabama head coach, he only lost games as a 14-point favorite or higher three times. In just 14 games with Alabama, DeBoer has already lost four of those matchups.
Kalen DeBoer has four losses at Alabama as a 14+ point favorite, in 14 games as the coach.
Nick Saban lost three of those in 139 games.

With DeBoer’s overall lack of success, Alabama fans have had just about enough of DeBoer and have taken to the internet to voice their opinions. One fan put it simply, saying that DeBoer needs to go. “He’s got to go!!!” the fan wrote.
He’s got to go!!!!

Another fan, replying to Vannini’s post, appeared to have already made up his mind about DeBoer’s future in Tuscaloosa. “He’s gone, Chris,” they said.

Other fans predicted that Alabama won’t even finish the season before firing DeBoer, with one writing, “He will not survive the season.” Another added a more detailed prediction, saying, “Who will be named interim head coach after Bama is 4-4 heading into the LSU loss?”

One fan even seems to be past thinking about DeBoer and is already wondering who Alabama’s next coach will be. “wonder who the next coach will be….,” they posted on X.
wonder who the next coach will be….

In a way, it’s easy to see where Alabama fans are coming from, considering that Saban has spoiled them since 2007.

During his tenure, the Crimson Tide won six national titles and nine SEC championships, so it makes sense that fans have quickly lost patience with DeBoer, especially after the loss to Florida State.
On the other hand, fans must understand DeBoer was never going to be Saban. It was always going to be an adjustment after the legend’s retirement, and while DeBoer has not met expectations, maybe it’s because those expectations were set too high.
Regardless, donors’ and fans’ patience is undoubtedly wearing thin with DeBoer, and there is a real chance he could be fired by the end of the year.
