Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410

Back in 2024, I received my Aquara Video Doorbell Camera Hub G4, which looked great at the time. It is good and it still works 24/7 in my home in the UK, however I have to use the Aqara app on my phone to access the camera. It won’t run in Home Assistant. or Google Home. Here we are in December 2025 and I have the Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410 in front of me, ready to open. I’m keen to see what’s new.

A quick look at the spec: Model CH-C09E. Video 2048*1536. 175 degree wide-angle. 12v-24vAC wired or battery powered. -18c to +50c. MicroSD not supplied (the SD card will sit in the bell unit indoors). Apart from the video quality – this much is pretty much like the old model.

The new doorbell supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi and rather than standard HD now has much higher resolution – that’s good start. “Homekit and other ecosystem support”. Thats a bit vague, I hope it’s not still heavily Apple-oriented as I’m not an Apple fan. Let’s open it up and find out.

Everything looks very familiar right down to the batteries, the USB-powered speaker unit which on plugging into my USB supply started a flash orange and a few seconds later a voice said, “Ready to connect. Please connect to the app.”

Aqara G410 video doorbell / Matter Hub

The brief instructions that come with the Aqara G410 doorbell read: “Works with Apple Home.”… Oh dear, well I don’t have Apple anything, so that’s out. I guess I’ll have to connect it to the Aqara app again and see what happens. I was rather hoping I could avoid that stage and connect it directly to my Google Hub.

From my new best friend Gemini…

  1. Matter Support: The G410 supports Matter, the new standard for smart home interoperability, meaning it can connect to multiple ecosystems like Google Home, Apple Home, and Alexa simultaneously.
  2. Hub Functionality: The G410 itself acts as a Thread Border Router and Zigbee hub, allowing direct connection to HomeKit and bridging other devices.
  3. Google Home Integration: You can stream live video to your Google Nest Hubs and get notifications through the Google Home app.
  4. Aqara App Role: While you can add it to Google Home, the Aqara app is often needed for initial setup, firmware updates, or accessing advanced features like HomeGuardian cloud storage or local NAS backups.

A bit vague “The Aqara app is often needed for initial setup…” well, is it needed or not? Well it DOES need the Aqara app to get started at least. Supplied batteries (6 of them) in, USB hooked to bell… I’m ready to go. Why am I not doing this outside in the sun? It’s 8am here in Spain, freezing cold and raining. I’m staying in my office.

Add device – scan QR code “Homekit pairing code identified”. And that means what? I don’t use Homekit – never have.

Start again – Add G410 (from list). The doorbell appears in the list. Ah, the app correctly scanned the Aqara QR code on the bell unit. Good – “Support 5g and 2.4Ghz WiFi”. I think they meant “Supports 5Ghz and .4Ghz WiFi”… but a good start, no changing my phone to 2.4Ghz WiFi – yes, definite improvement.

“Network connecting, please wait” – “The account is bound successfully, welcome aboard”. That was simple enough.

AqaraHome-D7e0 – the APP now wants me to pick between my Aqara M3 hub and my (not hooked up) G5 hub. Maybe I missed the point here – isn’t the M410 supposed to be a hub? The blurb goes on “After selecting to connect to a Matter controller, the device will automatically connect to the network…” – and it’s ignoring my Google Next Matter hub for what reason?

Oh well, the camera is all connected and showing a video of my desk – looks like someone’s lungs (in the Aqara APP) – would you like to see it (right)?

I should be encouraged – at this point “You can also connect to Matter in ‘Settings General Settings’”. Right… next..

“Matter Controller Management”… Still no mention of my 2nd generation Google Nest Hub.

“Third party Matter Ecosystems”…right – off to the Google Home app – wants me to connect to other ecosystems. I put in Aqara – done – it’s in but not seeing any video in the Google Home app – just an acknowledgement that the G410 is connected. Can I go and visit the camera in my Google Nest?

Off I went to the living room to my Google Nest – which now knows all about the new G410 – could this be it? erm, not yet.. on selecting the g410 – “camera is offline”. No it’s not.

The Aqara app is clearly showing the new doorbell as being online and as I mounted the unit on my desk temporarily – it caught the movement (I’m a lingerer apparently) and sent an alert to my phone – all working perfectly within it’s own ecosystem – yet my Google Nest (display, not thermostat) says the camera is offline – that’s a disappointment… but read on…

And that advert for “unlimited plan” has to go. I hope you can see the “Unlimited plan..” on the left with the tiny cross to kill the message on the right or the block. Well, it doesn’t work – it merely takes you to an add for the unlimited plan. Uhuh.. maybe I was too hasty – closed the app, opened it – advert gone.

As always I noted an update available – I went for it and moments later – an updated camera – I thought I’d better do a reboot via the app and WHEEEE – the camera video now works in Google Nest. I’m happy.

Immediate comment – that video (though it probably doesn’t look it in the screenshot) is very high quality – as is the video image in my Google Nest. This is definitely a step up from the original G4.

Ah, home Assistant – well, because the doorbell is battery powered – we’re not going to see video in there presumably – but my clicking on the MATTER integration in Home Assistant then keying in the Matter code from the doorbell, I did get THIS in HA..

It’s a start… See the box…

When I hit PRESS – the speaker unit of the G410 says something that sounds like “normality confirmed” – no matter how many times I try – I’m not completely sure if that’s what it says – one could go haywire with imagination “Normal in kitchen confirmed” ? Hah, well, no, in setup I used “office” as location so that’s out. Other than that I’m not seeing any functionality in Home Assistant for the doorbell.

There is the ability within the G410 to turn on RTSP feed but again I think that’ll do in the batteries – maybe when I come to deploy this device I’ll go for full on 12-24vAC (which I’m hoping will include 12vDC as Spanish cave-homes typically don’t have doorbell wiring built in – Sure enough – on attempting to enable RTSP – “RTSP service is not available. Please connect external power supply first”.

More on this later… I think I need to go for the powered version (I’ve been planning that with the G4 back in the UK as the (decent AA alkaline) batteries are good for “a few months” – that would be 6 months or less – I’ve no reason to believe the new model will improve on that.

G410

I’ll find a permanent use for this doorbell and update the blog accordingly but as we’re about to move home…
