BMX SolidSafe – Solid-State Magnetic Power Banks for iPhones / Android

Power banks have become an essential gadget for keeping our devices charged on a daily basis. However, not all power banks are built the same. Since most power banks typically use either lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery cells, there’s a risk of them swelling or even catching fire when overheated, overcharged, or damaged due to their flammable liquid core. Enter BMX, a mobile tech brand that has looked to solved with its newly announced BMX SolidSafe Power Banks.

BMX SolidSafe are a line of portable, solid-state magnetic power banks equipped with a solid-state battery cell that uses a solid core, which significantly reduces the risk of swelling and fire when damaged or overheated, while also having up to 2x the lifespan of traditional lithium batteries.

These power banks feature a slim design, can be magnetically attached to any smartphone, and integrate a full color LCD display that shows the exact wattage output for each device, plus a built-in lanyard USB-C cable for charging your phone. They deliver up to 60W USB-C charging, 30W USB-C fast charging, and 15W magnetic wireless charging, and support both dual-device charging and pass-through charging.

The BMX SolidSafe lineup of solid-state power banks includes the SolidSafe 5K, the SolidSafe 10K, and the SolidSafe 10K+MicroSD.

Engineered for safety, these solid-state magnetic power banks give you a much safer charging solution to traditional power banks that use lithium-ion or -polymer batteries.

In this article, we have a closer look at the BMX SolidSafe Power Banks, where we explain in detail how they’re designed to work and go over all the standout features they have to offer.

DESIGN

Starting with their size, these solid-state power banks feature a slim, compact design that closely matches the shape of the latest iPhone, meaning they can fit comfortably inside your pocket, backpack, carry-on or handbag. Plus, these power banks are also extremely lightweight.

BMX’s SolidSafe power banks also have a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, which gives them a discreet look.

Furthermore, these power banks also have a high-quality and durable construction.

What’s more is that the BMX SolidSafe power banks also come equipped with a built-in magnet, which allows them to be magnetically attached to any iPhone or any Android phone that can hold a MagSafe-style ring.

Their compact form factor ensures they stay low profile, whether you’re using a cable or have it attached magnetically to your phone, all without having it blocking your phone’s camera or extending beyond your phone.

INTERFACE

Moving on to the power banks’ interface, which has a very simple, user-friendly layout.

Integrated near the bottom, each BMX SolidSafe power bank features a full color LCD display that shows you the exact wattage output for both USB-C and wireless charging of each connected device that you’re charging with it.

BATTERY & CHARGING SPECS

For their battery, each BMX SolidSafe power bank utilizes a solid-state battery cell that uses a solid core (technically speaking it’s a semi-solid core), which is mostly composed of a solid oxide layer (made of approximately 97.5% solid oxide) with a tiny amount of liquid inside it (about 2.5 % liquid).

Because that liquid fraction is so small, the battery cells inside each of these power banks delivers the key solid-state safety benefit, meaning that heat can’t spread and ignite, all while still charging and discharging quickly.

In other words, this significantly reduces the risk of these solid-state power banks swelling and catching fire.

In addition, their solid-state batteries are also rated to have up to 2x the lifespan of traditional lithium batteries.

As for their charging specifications, these power banks can deliver up to 60W USB-C charging, up to 30W USB-C fast charging, and also deliver up to 15W magnetic wireless charging. Their battery can be charged either via USB-C or via wireless charging.

The BMX SolidSafe power banks also support dual-device charging, allowing you to charge one device via USB-C and the other via wireless charging, and also support pass-through charging, meaning you can use them to charge your devices while simultaneously charging the power bank.
