Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao will start advising the Kyrgyz Republic on blockchain and crypto regulation and technology.

That’s after the crypto mogul signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Investment Agency (NIA).

“A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Changpeng Zhao (CZ),” said Kyrgyzstan president Sadyr Zhaparov in an April 3 X post.

According to the president, the MOU with Zhao is a crucial step towards “strengthening technological infrastructure,  implementing innovative solutions, and preparing highly qualified specialists in blockchain technologies, virtual asset management, and cybersecurity.”

Kyrgyzstan is not the first to tap Zhao’s Web3 knowledge and expertise. “I officially and unofficially advise a few governments on their crypto regulatory frameworks and blockchain solutions for gov efficiency, expanding blockchain to more than trading,” Zhao said in an April 3 X post.

Earlier this year, in a Jan. 15 X post, Zhao shared that he had been in crypto-related discussions with Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, as well.

Zhao has also met with officials in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as Bhutan, which is actively buying Bitcoin.

Zhao Remains Active After 4-Month Prison Sentence

The former Binance CEO’s meetings come just six months after he was released from a four-month prison sentence in the US for violating multiple anti-money laundering laws. Shortly after his release, Zhao has made several investments in blockchain technology, as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and biotech.

No longer actively involved in Binance, the leading crypto exchange in terms of daily trading volume, Zhao has pursued other ventures.

After his release, he went on to launch a free educational platform called Giggle Academy.
