For those of you don’t know me too well yet, just know that I’m MyGolfSpy’s style guy. Don’t get it twisted, Connor is our shoe guru, but I’m much more of the traditionalist, and when it comes to my style on and off the course, I’m a fanatic.
Fall has always been my favorite season because as the weather gets colder, you can throw on more layers and really start to show just how good (or bad) you can dress. That’s probably why when I first started watching golf, even though Tiger was my “favorite,” I felt a kindred connection with our WITB hero, Adam Scott. From his days with Burberry, to Aquascutum, and now to Uniqlo, Adam’s pretty much got a sweater on him at all times, and is the unquestioned poster boy for cold-weather golf.
I am a firm believer that if you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you play good. So, take it from me, this is what you need to look, feel, and play your best golf this fall.
Uniqlo Milano Ribbed Sweater
You can ask my wife, I bring this thing with me everywhere all the time. There is not a trip, golfing or non-golfing, that this sweater (yes, in the Adam Scott beige) does not leave the house, and it is a life-saver. Even though it’s light, this thing is ridiculously warm when it’s cold out, and genuinely looks designer. You can easily take this from the course out to dinner, to the office, you name it. I know because I do it… frequently.
PUFFTECH Vest
This lightweight puffer vest is another staple me or Adam are rarely without in the fall and winter. Fits easily in the golf bag or travel bag, and adds the extra layer of warmth on particularly windy or inclement days. Not to mention, it also looks great: sporty yet timeless and functional as anything.
DRY-EX Polo Shirt
I will die on the hill that the Uniqlo DRY-EX polo shirt is the best value in golf. I own shirts from Greyson and Peter Millar, and always go back to Uniqlo. Like the sweater, this shirt punches so far above its weight class it’s not even funny. For $29.90, this polo looks and performs better than triple its price. Weather in the fall is also unpredictable, and for as often as you need to layer up, you need to take some layers off, and the Uniqlo DRY-EX lets you do so comfortably and in style.
Greyson Hybrid 1/2 Zip Mid Layer
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know Adam is sponsored by Uniqlo but we’re not. While Uniqlo’s quality and prices are great, sometimes you need to go the premium route, and I can’t think of a better option than Greyson. Like I said, I own quite a bit of Greyson apparel, and there stuff is absolutely legit and looks fantastic. I can guarantee you won’t see many people at your club or course wearing something quite like this. Be good to yourself and your game, go Greyson.
BLOCKTECH Parka
Yet again, I’m not going to recommend something to you that I don’t wear or believe in. I saw Adam wearing one of these right around the time they were introduced in 2019, and I still have mine. I can’t tell you the number of October and November rounds this jacket has got me through, not to mention flights and vacations. I absolutely LOVE this parka, and I’m sure you will, too. However, I wish Uniqlo would release one without the hood like they make for Adam…
Heathlander Golf Shoes
Adam’s a FootJoy guy but these are totally something I can see him wearing because I’d wear them. The Heathlander golf shoe is highly rated among the MyGolfSpy staff, and they scream fall/winter golf and less than “ideal” conditions. When you consider their heritage and name alone, that makes a lot of sense. These were made for and inspired by links courses, where conditions are unpredictable and rough to say the least. Do yourself a favor and be like me: get some Heathlanders.
Longbow LP-2 Broomstick Putter
Look, the broomstick putter is divisive, but if you remember my last article about him, I told you that one of his putters was going in my bag. I lied… Kinda. By pure, I came across Longbow, and their putters are absolutely awesome. I added one to the bag this week and whether it’s placebo or not is up for debate, but on taking it out, my distance control and feel have improved immensely. Adam knew what he was doing when he switched to the long putter, and I’m glad I finally took the plunge, too. The weather is getting cold, but it’s about time that your putter heats up.
