The Dark Tower Graphic Novel Omnibuses Are $38 Each With Amazon’s Early Black Friday Deal

Fans of Stephen King’s epic dark fantasy series The Dark Tower can save over 50% on the beautiful omnibus editions of the official graphic novel adaptation. All three hardcover omnibuses are included in Amazon’s Buy Two, Get One Free Book Sale this week: The Beginnings, The Gunslinger, and The Drawing of the Three. Published by Gallery 13 in 2023, these hefty full-color omnibuses retail for $100 each, but Amazon has each one priced from $55-$59. If you add all three to your cart, an additional $55 discount will show up at checkout. The end result is you’ll get the complete 2,000-page graphic novel series for only $114.73 (was $300), which breaks down to roughly $38 per book.

2,000 pages is a lot, but that’s less than half the page count of Stephen King’s original Dark Tower novel series. The Dark Tower Complete 8-Novel Box Set is available for $100 (was $161) at Amazon and is also eligible for the Buy Two, Get One Free promotion. The eight books total 4,720 pages, making it by far the longest story arc of King’s prolific career. It’s one of several Stephen King book box sets and omnibuses included in Amazon’s B2G1 Free Sale. You’ll also find numerous recent Stephen King releases in the B2G1 catalog, including hardcover editions of King’s classic novels The Running Man and The Long Walk, New Tales of Stephen King’s The Stand, Hansel and Gretel, and the Classic King 3-Book Box Set.

The Dark Tower: The “Complete” Graphic Novel Saga

Most of Stephen King’s 65-plus novels are standalone works, though he has written a few series, with The Dark Tower being the longest by a significant margin. The eight-novel, 4,000-plus page tale was published over the course of 30 years. In 2007, Marvel began adapting The Dark Tower into comic books. Although King himself didn’t write the comics, he served as the creative supervisor on the project.

But it’s important to acknowledge that Marvel canceled the ambitious adaptation before it could reach its proper conclusion. Thus, The Complete Graphic Novel Saga is both correct and incorrect. If you read all three omnibuses, you will have read everything that’s available, but you need to read King’s novels to get the full story.

If you’re unfamiliar with King’s opus, here’s a quick breakdown: The series features a compelling mix of high fantasy, science fiction, and horror. But at its most basic premise, The Dark Tower is a traditional hero’s journey. Set in the post-apocalyptic Mid-World, the story follows Roland Deschain’s quest for the eponymous tower and the Man in Black, a powerful dark sorcerer. The novels often jump across time periods and different worlds, but the graphic novels, for the most part, are more linear, which gives them a more intimate reading experience.

The massive 800-page The Dark Tower: Beginnings Omnibus may be of particular note for long-time fans of the series. Essentially a prequel, this hardcover omnibus contains five graphic novels chronicling Roland Deschain of Gilead’s coming-of-age story that led to him becoming the last gunslinger. It covers and expands upon Roland’s backstory as alluded to in flashbacks and conversations throughout the series.

The other two omnibuses–The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three–are named after the first two books in the series. While they cover the same major plot points as their novel counterparts, the comics also cover new ground that many fans would find interesting, even if you recently read the novels themselves. All three hardcover volumes contain gorgeous artwork drawn by a team of illustrators.
