Genshin Impact is dropping PS4 and raising requirements on PC and mobile

Genshin Impact will undergo some major changes starting next month, which will make it unplayable on a number of older devices. This, unfortunately, includes the PlayStation 4, where the game is no longer going to be supported, or available to download.

The developer announced the change earlier this week, and also raised requirements for the game across the board.

Starting off with PS4, MiHoYo said that “due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size” it will be ending support for Genshin Impact on PS4. This does not affect the PS5 version, however.

This is a major change for the free-to-play action RPG, which is part of why it’s going to be carried out in three phases. First, the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10. If you previously downloaded the game, you may continue to download it from your library in the future.

Then, starting February 25, 2026, in-game purchases will no longer be available through the in-game shop, as well as the PlayStation Store. This includes top-ups and all other purchases. Until the game’s inevitable discontinuation on PS4, you’ll stil be able to claim items you purchased from the PlayStation Store in-game.

The final phase kicks off August 4, 2026, and it is then that all official support for Genshin Impact on PS4 will end. After that date, you’ll no longer be able to log in on PS4, and no future patches or support will be offered on it.

Separately, the game is also raising its device specifications across PC and mobile. Both minimum and recommended system specs for PC and mobile devices are being raised, starting with the Song of the Welkin Moon version (likely 6.0).

However, unlike the PS4 situation, devices that fall below the minimum specs may still launch the game, but the developer said it’s not going to be a pleasant experience. You can expect various performance issues to occur, as future content won’t be made with those specifications in mind.

As listed on the official website, the new specifications aren’t unattainable, but you’ll definitely need to be aware of them going forward.

Last week, Genshin Impact’s update 5.8 arrived, with its banner events introducing Ineffa and bringing Citlali and Mualani back. If you’re diving back in, better read our Ineffa build and team recommendations. Our ever-useful Genshin Impact codes page was recently updated, too.
