Honma TW 767 Max Driver Review

Honma TW 767 Max Driver
Grade: A
Teachers’ Comments: A driver for a specific audience: It rewards an easy swing with distance and a baby draw. If you’re a slicer, this might be the fix.

I struggled with the TW 767 Max for several rounds; at one point the driver found itself parked in dark corner of the garage as punishment.

My issue was that every single tee shot turned into a massive hook; I just couldn’t keep the ball in play. I carried two drivers for a while. I’d hook the ball into the trees on the first shot with the Honma, and then take out my Srixon and pipe it down the middle.

I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to write a review of the Honma TW 767 because as a rule, I don’t write bad reviews. Life is too short for negative writing.

Weeks later, I took the driver out of its corner, thinking I’d give it one last try.

I badly hooked the first tee shot; the second hole was a par three; on the third, I told myself: Just poke it out there.

So I swung easier than usual, and watched as the ball flew high, with a bit of a baby draw. When it stopped rolling in the middle of the fairway, I had 120 to the green. On the par four fourth, an easy swing got me in position for a good second shot. I had another good drive on the fifth.

And so it went.

What I learned from that round — and subsequent ones — is that the Honma TW 676 rewards a smooth, easy swing. When I remember that, it stands me in good stead; when I forget and get aggressive, I hook it into the woods.

Once again, as the old saying goes: it’s not the arrow, it’s the archer (or some more politically incorrect version).

The TW 767 is one of three T//World Drivers from Honma for the 2025 year. The 767 Max is designed to be the company’s most forgiving, with a built in draw bias.

The draw bias is likely what causes me to send the ball into a hook when swung with too much gusto. I rarely hit a slice; my big miss has always been a hook.

On the other hand, I think it near impossible to slice the ball with this driver. If you’re a slicer with a moderate swing speed, this is the club for you. I’m convinced that it will help straighten a slice, and even bring on that much-desired, but oft-elusive draw.

Here’s what Honma says about the club’s construction:

Honma’s new TW767 driver lineup includes three models with a similar construction framework, yet distinct shapes, weight positions, and clubhead sizes to create a driver line that addresses the ball flight goals and needs of players of every ability. Each driver’s head adopts a new centerpiece carbon construction called Carbon Roll Technology. The weight saved from the one-piece, middle Carbon Roll Technology has been moved to the back titanium weight, creating the largest MOI in Honma history.

The TW 767 drivers also feature a new face design. Honma Takumi took the characteristics of Beta titanium to create a Vertical Slit Face to reduce energy loss during impact over a wider area, further improving MOI. These new design features maximize strength and spring effect, which results in a high initial ball speed. This head design redefines distance off the tee.

The 767 Max has an adjustable hosel what lets players adjust the loft by one degree and lower the lie angle by two degrees. There’s also an adjustable titanium and tungsten weight on the rear of the head that lets the player optimize ball flight.

An interesting thing about Honma clubs is that they design and manufacture their own shafts. That lets their engineers match heads to known shaft characteristics (or perhaps design heads to match shafts).

(As an aside, I’ve often wondered by a company doesn’t design balls with characteristics to match specific clubs in their lineups).

In the final analysis, I think that the Honma 767 Max is a driver designed for a very specific audience: moderate speed swingers and slicers. Now that I write that sentence, however, I realize that describes most golfers.

If you’re in either of those categories, and are in the market for a new diver, I recommend that you give Honma a look.
