Finally, Cameron Young’s wait is over as he rolled over the field to win the Wyndham Championship for his first PGA Tour victory.
Young was dialed with his putter this week, seemingly making everything, including five birdies in a row near the start of Sunday’s final round at Sedgefield Country Club.
That club has been an issue for Young over the past two seasons, when he ranked outside the top 140 in Strokes Gained: Putting, but this year, he entered the final week of the regular season in 10th. That coincides with finding a new Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5 Tour Prototype putter this season, which seems to have helped him get over the hump.
The Phantom 9 is one of the highest MOI mallets in the Scotty Cameron matrix, and Young’s has a fairly clean top with a single, full-length sight line. The “.5” designation indicates a short slant neck to give the putter more toe flow than a single-bend shaft.
Young was also hitting booming drives with his Titleist GT2 driver. He entered the week just 70th in SG: Off the Tee, despite his prodigious length. This week, he was second in strokes gained, second in distance and top 30 in accuracy on his way to a huge victory.
Going more under the radar, Young also made a sneaky switch this week to the Golf Pride MCC Align Max. Young becomes the second player to win with the new grip and the second to win in his first week of the change. Young had previously played the Tour Velvet Cord or Tour Velvet Align models, so the MCC Align Max is like a mix of both styles, but with the larger ridge of the new Align Max.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (48-10F, 52-12F, 56-14F @57), WedgeWorks (60-K* @62)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold X7

Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks SM10 K* Grind Custom Wedge
The K Grind has a long-standing place in the Vokey lineup, originally crafted by Master Craftsman Bob Vokey with input from top players. Known as the ultimate bunker club, its wide flange and subtle camber create a forgiving, smooth surface, ideal for sand shots.
The K* Grind represents an evolution of the original K, designed in response to feedback from today’s players who seek versatility on firmer courses. It’s based on the Low Bounce K, with modifications like heel-to-toe relief for open-face shots and pre-wear to reduce digging on square-face shots.
This new design allows the club to sit closer to the ground when opened, improving greenside performance while retaining the reliable bunker play of the original K Grind. The K* Grind is available in 58° and 60° lofts (RH only) with a Raw finish.
