Every six months or so, Fortnite enters my field of view. I’ve tried other battle royales like Apex Legends, and I just don’t think the shooter genre is for me. I also loathe crossover slop that just dumps recognizable characters and references into one battleground for the microtransactions. So why would I ever jump into the game that is both of those things in one? I wouldn’t, right? I haven’t! Fortnite was only ever installed on one of my consoles when my nephew was visiting and wanted to play it on my Switch. Despite this, I’m also prone to hyperfixation, and every leaked detail about the upcoming KPop Demon Hunters collaboration is calling to me like the Green Goblin mask in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man.
Right now, the full extent of what will be in the KPop Demon Hunters crossover hasn’t been officially revealed, but a lot of the details have either been leaked or teased on social media. Let’s start with the official stuff first. From the sound of it, all three members of the titular K-pop demon-hunting group Huntr/x are getting skins. Zoey, the rapper of the group, was revealed first through vocalist Rei Ami, after she’d spent months campaigning for a collaboration on social media.
Next up was Mira, the group’s dance lead, whose skin was revealed in an X exchange between the official Fortnite account and content creator thebritenite.

The only member of Huntr/x we haven’t seen in Fortnite yet is Rumi, the group’s lead vocalist and my bias. She’s also the protagonist of KPop Demon Hunters, so it’s not too surprising they would save her for last. According to the leaks, these skins will be part of Fortnitemares, an annual Halloween-themed event that typically spotlights horror characters and tropes. Huntr/x is at least kind of on theme because they do fight demons from literal Hell, but it’s also possible that, given the movie’s surprise runaway success, Epic and Netflix fast-tracked this collaboration.
Beyond the skins, Fortnite leaker @HYPEX is reporting that the event will also include emotes and other cosmetics, a limited-time mode called Demon Rush, and official assets for the Unreal Editor for Fortnite creation suite to make levels using KPop Demon Hunters props. If that wasn’t enough, @HYPEX says there’s even more to be revealed before the event supposedly begins on October 2.

What’s a Huntr/x stan to do? It feels like a proper video game based on the musical is still light years away, so is the closest I’m gonna get to it paying up to get a Rumi skin in Fortnite? If the event is as jam-packed as the leaks say, that’s really impressive considering it doesn’t seem like anyone expected KPop Demon Hunters to blow up the way it has since it premiered on Netflix back in June. Makes you wonder what might’ve been kicked down the pipeline to make room for these queens.
