Lakhs of vehicle owners in India have started to complain about lower mileage and power output from their cars and bikes, since the rollout of the new E20 petrol. This new grade of fuel contains a blend of 20% ethanol and is now mandated by the Government of India to reduce emissions and control pollution. However, older vehicles are not suitable to run on E20 petrol, putting them at risk of engine damage.

We have curated a list of all the cars and bikes in India compatible with E20 petrol. We have mentioned the year in which each particular model was upgraded to be E20 compliant. Check if your vehicle is E20 Petrol Compatible

Cars and bikes that are compatible with E20 petrol have an E20 sticker. It is placed on the fuel tank on two-wheelers, and the fuel lid of cars. This is the easiest way to identify whether your vehicle is compatible with the new petrol grade.

You can also refer to the owner’s manual, which will clearly mention the best grade of fuel for your vehicle. Alternatively, you can also take your car or bike to the nearest official service centre, where they can confirm the compatibility of your vehicle with E20 petrol using the engine number or vehicle registration number.

FAQs

Q. Does E20 Petrol damage the engine?

If your car or bike is not certified for E20 petrol, then the new petrol standard will damage your engine. This happens because E20 petrol is blended with 20% ethanol, which is corrosive in nature and can corrode your engine, piston, fuel injector, fuel tank, and other components.

Q. Can I upgrade my vehicle to E20?

No, it is not possible to upgrade your existing vehicle to E20. Such modification is not possible and is not permitted in India. You will have to buy a new vehicle that is E20 compatible out of the box.

Q. Can I run my older bike or car on E20 petrol?

Yes, you can run your older bike, car, or other vehicle on E20 petrol. But remember that it puts the engine and fuel system at risk of corrosion, causing permanent damage.

Wrapping Up

E20 petrol is here, and there is currently no alternative to it in India. Whether you like it or not, you are forced to use 20% ethanol-blended petrol in your bike or car, even if it is not compatible with it. From reduced mileage, less power output, to even potential engine damage, there are a lot of potential disadvantages to this new fuel standard. The situation is only better if you have a vehicle designed to run on E20 petrol, to minimize the cons.
