Lord Hugh Carnegie, youngest son of the Duke and Duchess of Fife, and Catherine “Kate” Morgan were married on August 30th at the Farnell Parish Church in Brechin, Scotland. He is third in line, after his two older brothers, Charles, Earl of Southesk, and George, to the Fife dukedom. Lord Southesk has two daughters, who are ineligible to inherit the title.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at Kinnaird Castle, which is owned by the Duke of Fife. The 600-year-old castle offers a stately home experience to well-heeled guests.
Lady Marina Windsor and her fiancé, Nico Macauley, were among the guests.
Lord Hugh and Lady Marina Windsor are fourth cousins and descendants of Queen Victoria.
Victoria – Edward VII – Louise – Maud – James – David – Hugh
Victoria – Edward VII – George V – George – Edward – George – Marina
Lord Hugh is also a descendant of William IV through an illegitimate line, as the king had no surviving legitimate issue.
William (through his mistress Dorothea Jordan) – Lady Elizabeth FitzClarence (m 18th Earl of Erroll) – Lady Agnes Hay (m 5th Earl of Fife) – Alexander, 1st Duke of Fife (m Princess Louise, Princess Royal) – Maud (m 11th Earl of Southesk) – James, 3rd Duke of Fife – David, 4th Duke of Fife – Lord George Carnegie
Lady Hugh Carnegie wore the Fife tiara, which is on permanent loan to Historic Royal Palaces and is on display at Kensington Palace. The tiara was also worn by the wives of Lord Hugh’s two older brothers, Charles, the Earl of Southesk.
The tiara was a gift from the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to their eldest daughter, Princess Louise, when she married Alexander Duff, 6th Earl of Fife, in July 1889.
Louise’s grandmother, Queen Victoria, created Lord Fife as the 1st Duke of Fife at the wedding breakfast. This is not the same as the Fife Tiara, which is given to the nation instead of taxes. Both tiaras are on display at Kensington Palace. The Duke of Fife has loaned the Fringe tiara to the palace. Both tiaras can be used by members of the Fife family.
Please see Court Jeweller’s excellent article for more information about Princess Louise’s tiaras.
Lord Hugh, 32, is a graduate of Harrow. He received a Master of Arts in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support from the University of Edinburgh. He spent a year as part of an exchange program with the University of Texas at Austin.
He also completed a Mandarin Language program at Tsinghua University. Lord Hugh is the co-founder of review.legal.
The couple became engaged in August 2024.
