Nico Iamaleava’s Parents

Nico was born Nicholaus Iamaleava Jr. in Long Beach, California, to his parents Marleinna and Nicholaus Iamaleava. His family has been one of his strongest support systems throughout his football journey, from his early days at Warren High School to becoming one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

The Iamaleavas are proud of their Samoan heritage, a cultural identity that has played an important role in shaping Nico both as an athlete and as a person. Known for their tight-knit family structure and values of faith, discipline, and respect, the Samoan community has produced some of football’s most notable talents, and Nico carries that tradition forward.

Nico Iamaleava’s Siblings

Nico grew up in a large household with seven siblings, all of whom share strong ties to sports and competition. His brothers are Matt and Madden, while his sisters are Nicaylah, McKennah, Ninalei, Mallory, and Nori.

Athletic talent runs deep in the family. His older brother, Matt, played volleyball at Long Beach State, while his sister Nicaylah competed in volleyball at Cypress College. Interestingly, Nico now shares the UCLA quarterback room with his brother Madden, making their story a unique sibling bond in college football.

Growing up in such a competitive household helped Nico develop the discipline and drive that set him apart on the football field.

Early Life and Career Highlights

Before his college career, Nico starred at Warren High School in Downey, California. His breakout performances earned him the title of Polynesian High School Player of the Year in 2022. He was also named Offensive MVP at the Polynesian Bowl, further solidifying his status as one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation.

Nico began his college career at Tennessee in 2023, where he quickly made history. In 2024, he became the first redshirt freshman in Tennessee history to lead the Volunteers to 10 regular-season wins. Across two seasons with the program, he appeared in 18 games and made 14 starts, finishing with 2,930 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and six rushing scores.

His transfer to UCLA in 2025 marks a new chapter, as he looks to build on his growing resume with the Bruins.
