After Week 1, the kicker carousel has already started to spin. The San Francisco 49ers dumped kicker Jake Moody after he missed a short-range field goal and had one blocked in the team’s 17-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Moody was a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the 49ers, but he never lived up to the team’s expectations. Now, he’s been replaced by Eddy Piñiero.
While the 49ers have seemingly fixed their kicker issue for now, there are other teams who might be looking to upgrade their kicker situation in the coming days or weeks. Who are the top free agents on the market right now?
What Kickers Are NFL Free Agents Right Now?
Michael Badgley
Michael Badgley has played for a few NFL teams but has been out of the league since 2023. Badgley, nicknamed the “Money Badger,” has played for the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions.
In his career, he’s made 27 of 28 field goals between 20-29 yards, 29 of 30 between 30-39 yards, 37 of 48 between 40-49 yards, and zero for four at 50-plus yards.
Badgley, though, missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn hamstring at a Lions practice back in July 2024. He was placed on injured reserve and never saw the field. If Badgley has completely healed from his injury, he might be a solid pickup for a team in need.
Greg Joseph
Another name out there on the free agent market is Greg Joseph, who has played for the Cleveland Browns, Titans, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and New York Jets. In 75 career games, Joseph has made 116 out of 141 field goal attempts and 157 out of 163 PATs.
Between the Giants, Commanders, and Jets last season, Joseph made 16 of 20 field goal attempts, with his longest made kick at 52 yards. There was some talk that Joseph might replace Moody with the 49ers, but they went with Piniero instead.
Justin Tucker
Justin Tucker was a scoring machine during his tenure with the Baltimore Ravens. He had played his entire 13-year career for the Ravens, making 417 out of 468 field goals.
Tucker was a five-time All-Pro with Baltimore, but was replaced entering this season by Tyler Loop, whom the Ravens drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Tucker set the all-time NFL record in field goal length with a 66-yard blast. But Tucker was let go by the Ravens in May 2025 after the NFL opened an investigation into allegations that Tucker was engaged in sexual behavior with massage therapists in the Baltimore area.
The NFL suspended Tucker for the first 10 games of the 2025 season. Tucker doesn’t need to be on a roster for the suspension to take effect, so he will be eligible to play by Week 11. Given the allegations, some teams will surely stay away. But he’s technically still one of the top available free agent kickers, hence his inclusion on this list.
Austin Seibert
Austin Seibert last kicked for the Commanders last season, but he’s on the market right now. Besides Washington, Seibert has kicked with the Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Lions, and Jets.
In his six-season NFL career, Seibert has made 72 of 86 field goal attempts with his longest kick being at 55 yards.
Dustin Hopkins
Dustin Hopkins is one of the most experienced NFL kickers who’s currently without a team. Hopkins last kicked for the Browns for two seasons, but was not brought back for this season.
Besides the Browns, Hopkins has also played for the Commanders for six-plus seasons and the Los Angeles Chargers for a little over a year. He’s made 241 of 287 field goals with his longest being a 58-yarder while with the Browns in 2023.
Due to his experience, any top NFL team in contention for a division title just might give him a shot.
It’s going to be interesting to see how kickers fare entering Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season. Shanahan didn’t have much patience for Moody after his Week 1 misses. Other head coaches might be tempted to cut their kickers if they cannot perform as well, and these names might pop up on an NFL roster pretty soon.
