Paula Badosa has recently become a key figure in women’s tennis. The Spanish player has consistently drawn attention from the media and fans worldwide. Her presence on the professional tour has been notable for various reasons throughout her career.
Badosa has never been one to shy away from expressing her thoughts publicly on essential matters, and her interview with Spanish media has sparked conversations across the tennis community.
What Did Paula Badosa Say About Her Tennis Career?
In her latest interview with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Badosa addressed speculation about people saying she might quit tennis. The 27-year-old Spanish player clearly stated that she does not want to stop her tennis career anytime soon. “I tried to contradict the doctors,” she explained when talking about her fight with injuries.
Badosa expressed her desire to give everything to her tennis career. “I’ve always said I want to retire knowing I’ve given 100 percent to everything, that I won’t regret anything,” she told the radio interviewer. Her determination shows as she continues to push forward even when doctors advise caution. “If I have to push hard, I’ll do it, and I’ll find every solution. We’ll get back up and get through this. Going against the grain is part of my competitive nature.”
The Spanish player also shared her specific timeline for how long she wants to continue playing tennis. “I want to play for many more years, although I don’t know how many. At least four more years, so all I ask for now is a consistent year,” she revealed. This shows her commitment despite having many physical problems lately.
She ended on a positive note, describing her ambitions in the time ahead. “I want to be at the top, and I have faith in that,” Badosa said. Talking about the impact of her injuries, she added, “I’m a little sad that injuries have stopped me because mentally I see myself in the best form of my career. As the years go by, you mature and improve, so if injuries spare me, the combination of both would give me more options.” These concerns amid the optimism shown by Badosa rise from a season marred by injuries.
How Did Injuries Affect Badosa’s 2025 Season?
Badosa’s 2025 season has been challenging due to recurring back problems that have plagued her throughout the year. She started well at the Australian Open in January, making it to the semifinals, her best result ever at a Grand Slam tournament. However, her injury problems resurfaced and halted her excellent form.
The Spanish tennis player suffered a severe tear in her psoas muscle, which connects the lower back to the upper leg. This injury forced her to withdraw from multiple tournaments during the season. She had to skip the Washington Open despite being the defending champion from last year. Her most recent competitive match was at Wimbledon, where she lost to Katie Boulter in three sets on June 30 in the first round.
Because of her injury problems, Badosa could not play in any tournaments during the North American summer swing. She missed several significant events, including the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open and the US Open. This was particularly disappointing because she reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 US Open, where Navarro bested her. These missed tournaments caused her world ranking to drop significantly to number 20.
